I hope it's all clear now! I was volunteering inside our elementary when it happened at ours. It was crazy, first lockdown in school history, so things were a little rough around the edges. The kids didn't really know much about what was happening, since it wasn't an active shooter situation. I think there might be more fear now, at the time there had been Columbine and a few others- but not so common place. Ick- I just referred to mass shootings as "common place".
Take care, sending you safe thoughts.

I am glad your school is being proactive, I am sure the schools have been doing their drills so the kids knew what to do. It is always nerve wracking, but I am sure everything will be fine. We had a similar situation about a year ago, I was super impressed with how good the kids did!

Hopefully it's just a precaution.
Sadly, that is getting common place. It happens almost weekly around here. Our district covers the entire county and we get notification for all the schools--I know there are at least 95 schools. We live in a pretty urban area and the random robberies seems like a lot. But I guess if it happens weekly, that's only 50 for the year.
It doesn't even phase my kids (high schoolers) anymore. It just means that they can't leave the building until the all clear has been sounded. A few days football practice had to be indoors, but most incidents seem to happen mid morning. I guess the criminals plan for when people are at work and they have plenty of time to get out.

Prayers and good thoughts indeed. Hopefully they will catch the scoundrel. You must be so worried. I'm glad the school seems on top of the matter.

If I were a bank robber I don't think I would flee to a school. Good to hear that the school is being proactive though!

Ds was supposed to half day. Just got a robo call from the school district that the police have enacted a lock down/shelter in place order because of an armed bank robbery taking place 1/3 mile from the school. I'm sure it will be fine but my heart sank. No idea where the robber is right now. Hey that's weird we had the same thing. Exactly. Armed robbery, 1/3ish mile from school school on lockdown. And I'm pretty sure we don't live near each other. At this point mine are home, safe and the police have the dudes photo up online. I hope all is well with your kids. Eta: oops I reread our police sept post and ours was not a bank. I still think it's weird. What is it commit a crime near a school day today?

Our schools do the same thing as far as lock down if there's a crime like that within a certain distance of the school. I would think about the last place an armed robber would want to go is to a school, nothing like make his situation about 1000 times worse, but better safe than sorry.

Don't worry. It's just a precaution. I'm sure the kids are safe and will be home soon.

DS's MS went on lock down a few times because of police activity in the area. It was more about keeping the area clear of parents picking up kids/kids walking home that the student body being in any danger, but still scary to get that call.

It is standard procedure to lock schools down in these kinds of situations. Sadly, it happens many times every day all across the country.
