Back on the wagon (previously did LoseIt! but found it very tiresome with all the entering & innaccuracies) MyFitnessPal is SO easy & hassle-free as far as finding stuff. I am 2 months plus 12 days & have lost 15 pounds. Slow is the way to go, and this really seems to stick, especially doing a customized plan (NOT going by their calories on the app). As per a great # of threads on their website, I went to: www.younglifenorthdekalb.com/fitness/bmr_meal_calculator.php then use the calculator on top for BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) this # is ONLY the minimum # of calories your body REQUIRES to function on a daily basis...this is NOT AT ALL the # of calories you allocate for the day...that would be very dangerous & unhelpful. After BMR is calculated, look at the rest of the info that pops up below it. After that, this is what I did: pick either the lose 1 lb per week # of calories (what I am doing), or the .5, or a # in between the two, and be accurate with logging amounts because this range is vital. The calorie #s the apps give you are WAY too low, esp for short people. Do not do anything outside range above. After you pick daily calories from above, either on app (using app is easiest/most convenient) or create account & log into www.myfitnesspal.com (or use both, same email/password) > Goals > change goals > custom & enter it there RECALCULATE above & change approx every 10 lbs lost Obviously it has gone a bit better than 1 lb a week, and I go way over at least once a week (and the entire Memorial Day weekend), but stick to it, weigh, & measure EVERYTHING. I am actually surprised how easy it is this time (have done WW and temporaily succeeded well with all of that other crap over the years)--and not feeling like a diet (don't give anything up, I just work it into the day). As far as the "fitness" aspect, I haven't done any of that, but there is a handy calculator for things like mowing, etc that really are good workouts & stuff gets done The most vital thing of all...DO the calories as outlined above and BELIEVE that you WILL stall if you go under (doesn't make sense but I ignored this at first, and thought less was more, and stalled). It is so freeing to lose and do it by not suffering through the pittance of calories these apps come up with. I always got these really low totals, but they'd always say it wasn't a safe amount. WTH? Anyway the calculator & the info it draws from that above is REALLY a relief and does work. You just have to be patient...I constantly think I'm on month 5 or something and haven't lost much, then I check the Google calendar, and it's Hmmm only 2 months, not bad!

Hmm I will have to check all this info out. I am using MFP daily but only to log my exercise. I was using it for the step counter but it was draining my cell battery.

There's a STEP COUNTER? lol I had no idea will have to check it out. Love it for logging because I hated having to eneter every bit of nutrition info on other app, or when I'd scan something low cal it'd come up a doughnut or something @@ MFP has had none of those issues for me...and none of the WW mentally unhealthy cliches & product-centered gimmicky crap. I eat all my same faves, just forces you to make better choices to make it work. (ie: 35 cal /slice bread as opposed to 110, or 100 cal bags of microwave popcorn (:::the horror: vs the seemingly worst of the worst Costco Kirkland Movie theatre butter (and yes I do still have that about once a week too when I have extra calories). Overall, though, I've always had a mainly healthy menu...just this helps portion it.

Yeah and it converts it to calories burned. However, by about mid to late afternoon my battery would be low.

I use MFP and would love to join in! I am actually using it as a "food diary" of sorts. I'm doing the 5:2 diet and log my food for the day on MFP, it helps me keep track of my caloric intake for the day. I love it! I also log my exercise during the week. My friend and I walk 2.5-3 miles, five days a week and I use my nike run app to track my "runs" (which are nowhere near running HA!) and then log it into MFP. It would be fun to have some online friends to help me stay accountable too.

Oh! One "processed food" though, that actually does seem like it is for the betterment of society is PB2 . OMG Someone actually took peanuts and removed all the oil, ground it into a powder...take 2Tbps, add 1 Tbsp water, stir up with a spreading knife, and voila! 45 calories for 2 Tbsp vs 190 !!! And it is really good! If definitely satifies that craving.

I've been meaning to try the PB2, now I know I'll have to get some! If only they would do that for nutella...or pizza...or cake...

It really is good..I was suspicious of it when I first came across it, but was floored by the awesomeness. Just saw it the other day at Target, too (both) so it is quite mainstream...I guess there was a phase (after looking it up) where people were freaking out because there was a shortage, but I guess that's been solved. I got it for under $5 at grocery store...Amazon also has them (and much much larger bags that I may be ordering, lol)

I'm on MFP as well, although haven't been very active lately. I hate the way I look and hate worrying about food and my weight. So why is it so hard to make good choices?

Thank you so much for sharing that link, I've been faithfully using MFP for awhile, trying to stay at or below the 1,210 calories it allowed me. According to the link that's way too low. No wonder....
I use MFP to record food as well as workouts (plus it syncs with my Fitbit). I love the accountability of it.

Emily that link was the eye opening game changer for me, and I found it after the first week on MFP. It changed it all. Wonderful. I don;t even freak if I go over the calories listed on 1 lb a week because the weight loss RANGE is even higher than that too. The 1 lb/wk amount is just the bottom of that range so you get leeway on days you just need more. I LOVE lawn mowing day because I get an extra few hundred calories back to work with & can indulge in some serious pasta or other stuff that you just want more of sometimes. 'night night everyone

Why oh WHY did I feel the need for curry on the hottest day of the year so far?!!! The sodium alone is bloating me up 5x and no bananas in the house to alleviate it.

Thanks for posting this link. Very helpful as I wasn't eating enough calories and getting frustrated. You're welcome. The diet industry survives by keeping us dependant on them & failing even after initially succeeding. If more people realized how many calories they SHOULD be eating ( as calculated per 1st post link), rather than eating fewer calories falsely thinking that will be better & speed things up, more would be successful over the long term & not burnout from hunger. Again, without fail, anytime I eat less than my alotted calories ( as calculated per 1st post link), I stall. Also going up a pound or 2 randomly during the week is not unusual due to sodium intake, etc, and always resets itself if you follow above. Some find it better to weigh only once a week. I weigh every couple of days (knowing I will see increases some days that will later go down)...if that bothers anyone do it once a week, but I like to see the CONSTANT ups & downs (which are frustrating) yet a 15 pound loss just under 2 1/2 months proves to me it works (and works out)

The step counter doesn't work with all phones. For an iphone, I think it needs to be one of the newest ones, it doesn't work with my iPhone 5.

I went back to MFP after I got back on the scale and I had gained 9 pounds back. I am now down 4.5 of those and I want to lose another 15 realistically. I could go 20 but I know that won't happen. I went to the site and it said I should be around 1500 calories but MFP said 1260 which is what I was sticking to BUT I could not do it without the exercise calories added in so I guess that kind of defeats the point!
I set MFP to 1400 and I will try and stick with that without adding in the exercise calories. I use a heartrate monitor to calculate those.

I've just started using the MyFitnessPal app and I'm excited to see the results. I've been using my FitBit for the past 1 1/2 years and love the accountability of it.
I'd love to get some friends to help keep each other going! My user name is TXRangersFan76 - feel free to friend me!
