Ok, so this is silly really, but I honestly don't know if I'm out of line to call and ask or not.
DD ran in a 5K on Sunday through a program called Girls on the Run, great program BTW, highly recommend it.
One of the sponsors is a local kids clothing company that was doing a drawing for a free pair of shoes. Of course, I signed up.
you know where this is going right?
I won the shoes.
The thing is, DD doesn't really need shoes, DS does. A fact that didn't percolate in my brain when I dropped in my email, the booth was cute I was ok with getting emails from them so I gave it.
Would I be out of line to call and ask if I can bring in DS for the shoes? Just show up with him? The event was a girl sponsored thing, but the email just says free pair of shoes. I think they're assuming girl shoes because we were at a girl based event.
Am I over thinking this?

I don't think the shoe store will care if you get the shoes for a boy or a girl. You won a free pair of shoes, you are free to pick out what you want/need.

Oh yeah, I would never have thought it was just for girl's shoes.

Unless they specified a style of shoe, I would bring your DS and get him some shoes.

If the drawing was for a pair of girls shoes, then no, I wouldn't request the store gave your ds a pair, but, if the drawing was to win a pair of shoes, then absolutely take your ds

Yes you are overthinking it. Take your DS for his new pair of shoes.

I'm going the other way -- but because it was your DD who ran the race. Seems to me that the one who was participating in the full program should get the benefit of the sponsored win. I'm not thinking about this from the sponsor point of view, but the participant point of view and, frankly, I've got this "forgotten child" thing going on in my head while thinking about this -- but it just seem fundamentally unfair to your DD to give the "prize" to a different child.

I'd totally get shoes for the boy. Didn't your daughter just get a new pair of shoes at the beginning of the GOTR program? Ours did.

yep, JoanieBaloney she did. One of the reasons she doesn't need new shoes. That and she got sandals last week for summer.

I would take my son for the shoes if he truly needed them, and this was one of the only ways for me to fulfill that requirement.
Would you have been able to buy him new shoes if you had not won the free pair of shoes?
Will your dd feel disappointed that she can't get a fun new pair of shoes from your winning drawing that was at her activity? Will she feel slighted?

In this case, I would think that maybe it was a contest meant for your DD to have a new pair of shoes. Like she was the one who put in the effort and did the running so she is the one who should have won the contest. I would probably just take her and buy her the next size up from what she's wearing currently or see if you can wait a while before redeeming your prize.

You won a drawing AT the event that was open to anyone who attended the event, right?
Not quite the same thing, but a few years ago my dad bought a pair of shoes at a shoe store that had a buy one pair get one pair free sale. Dad didn't find a second pair of shoes he liked, so since he had just picked me up for my weekend with him, he asked if the second pair of shoes could be for me. The shoe store had no problem with that.
They just want people in the doors because the chances are you'll buy more than one pair of shoes. I really doubt that the business cares who the shoes are for.
