I've made a photo book on Shutterfly in the past. Wondering if anyone has made then from different companies and has comparisons. Quality, ease of use on the site, etc. I'd like to make another one, but it's going to be a big project so I figured i'd see what the peas had to say first. edited to add: My main concern is ease of use of the site as I know i'll be moving things around a lot as the project is odd and difficult. Quality and user friendly matter more than price. I need my sanity intact (what's left of it) at the end of the project

I will first make a disclaimer that I am a rep for Heritage Makers.
With that said, even if I weren't a rep for them, I would still think their end product is the better one out there. I've compared them sided by side with several of the competitions out there and the quality was just better. The product is easy to use and has tons and tons of art options for your projects. 1000s of templates to choose from and all are customizable for your needs.
If you have any questions or would like to see more, please send me a message.

I got a Groupon forever ago for Mixbook and decided that they were going to be my company of choice for the future. But now I never see great deals for them anymore. (Maybe I'm just missing them?)
Picaboo has some pretty good deals. They should have an "unlimited pages deal" coming soon. That said, they've screwed up my SIL's books (wrong cover on wrong book) so many times that I almost hope they'll screw up mine. They had great customer service, as I understand, and printed new copies until they got it right.
Shutterfly seems to send out free 8x8 20 page book deals fairly often. That's a good way to try them out.
If I was making a book today and money was no object, i'd go for Mixbook.

Is mixbook made by mpix? I just used mpix for prints and was very happy with them. I thought I would check out their books.
I have used shutterfly a lot and have been very happy wit the books. I used them for a large project I did using their free form formatting.
The only company I have used that I was not happy with was photo book America. They have a Canadian version too. I tried them because I liked the idea of using their software to create the book on my PC and then uploading and printing when I was done. First the software lost my pictures and I had to read all of them to my book. I had not moved them so it was a software screwup that cost my about 4 hours of extra work to rebuild. Then the hard cover of the book warped almost immediately. I will never use them again. Too many other good companies out there.

I've only used blurb.com It was a "final" for one of my photography classes and everyone had to use them so I go to compare their hard back to softback since different students chose different options. But I can't compare different companies since i've only seen their final project. Which I like very much.
You don't design your book on their site. You have to download their designing software to use. But it was easy to download. I found it pretty easy to use (there was a small learning curve but nothing horribly long) and it was super easy to upload the finished book to their site for publishing. Publishing choices were for various types of paper, hard back, softback or even a pdf. I think you had to buy a print book to be able to order the pdf but it arrived via email about 10 minutes after putting in my order.

I am a huge fan of Artifact Uprising. They are a bit pricer than most but their quality is fantastic and the customer service even better.
I had a book made for Christmas with three copies for my mom, my brother, and me. The post office had difficulty with my brothers (they were spending Christmas away) and returned it to the company several days past Christmas. The company contacted me and reshipped it to his home. When that one was lost, the company offer to reprint and ship it to an address of my choice or to refund the cost to my account. I had it reprinted and shipped to me. I offered to pay, at lease for the shipping and they refused.
These delays were not their fault and they went out of their way to accommodate me all while being proactive and pleasant.
I am now a customer for life.
