Our glasses are coming out even more dirty than they went in. It isn't silica etching or a film it is like solid gunk (see photo). We have a water softener and the water should be hot enough. We have tried different types and brands of detergents (powder and gel pack). It is mostly only the glass glasses that that end up with this stuff on it, but a couple of metal pans did end up with it recently too. I ran a dishwasher cleaner through it recently as well. I am about ready to pull up a youtube video about taking apart and cleaning your dishwasher (the next step would be to call someone to service it).

I would try cleaning the dishwasher. Before you do anything, start with it totally empty. Look towards the back and see if there are any solids collected. It will be gross, so wear rubber gloves. Then after you get any old, wet scraps out of the dishwasher fill a glass with vinegar and put it on the top rack. And sprinkle the bottom of the dishwasher with baking soda. Let the dishwasher run on a normal cycle. That should help get any gunk and grime out of it.
I also fill the rinse aid compartment with vinegar to help keep stuff squeaky clean.

Don't replace it yet. There is a YouTube video where a guy shows how to clean that spinning arm using some thin wire. If that thing gets full of gunk, the glasses come out just like yours. I googled this a while ago when I noticed it happening with my daughters glasses. Her husband followed the steps and it worked. Google something like glasses coming out dirty in dishwasher.

Did you check the rinse aid to make sure it's dispensing? Took us a repairman's visit when ours was brand new and was leaving everything dirty...turns out (on our machine) there is a dial on the inside of the hole where you pour it in that adjusts how much it will dispense in the cycle. (Oops)

When our dishes come out dirty either it needs to be cleaned, or someone accidentally pushed the quick cycle rather than the normal cycle.

Also, run your garbage disposal for a couple minutes and then run straight hot water before turning on the dishwasher.

When my glasses come out like that, it's because something on the bottom rack is interfering with the upper spray arm.

It looks like something is blocking the spray. Give the spray arms a twirl and make sure nothing came loose or something is making them stick. Check and make sure there is nothing blocking the little holes either. We had a similar issue and I wiggled everything and found the problem Easy fix usually. Good luck.

Ours did that, too and we had to replace it.
