I googled all the home remedies and I do not have access to breast milk (yes, really) or raw honey. I have put tea bags on top of my itchy eyes, but I'm exhausted. I've been sick for one solid week. Laryngitis, sore throat, cough, fever and it is not going away!! Well, the fever went away, but the rest is just not going away and now pink eye. I spend the whole night coughing and I woke up this morning in eye pain and knew what it was.
AARGH. I just want to feel better. I want to stop coughing, I want my eyes to stop being gross and I want to feel well. I can see the doctor tomorrow, but until then, I need help!
I will take any and all suggestions.

Do you have access to one of those little walk in clinics? I cant imagine how uncomfortable your eyes feel. I know for me, very warm compresses helped relieve a little.

There are over the counter drops for pink eye you can buy. Might work until you can get in to the doctor.

I swear by Similisan Irritated Eye Relief. ( it used to be named Pink Eye Relief) I use it a lot after all my eye surgies because they made me very, very prone to conjunctivitis. It's at most drugstores, and the OTC section of many drugstores, Targets, etc.

Going to send one of my girls to the store for it right now. I do have access to the Doc in the Box, but it's $50/visit and I can do it for free tomorrow. It's worth that wait for me.

Call your primary care provider and have the number to a 24 hour pharmacy handy.

With the other symptoms of viral infection you have, and the fact that both eyes are infected, you most likely have pink eye from a viral cause and there isn't really any treatment that will make it go away faster than it will by itself. Previously boiled warm water compresses to clean and soothe the eyes are fine. Viral eye normally has a runny, stringy discharge, not sticky with yellow pus like you get with a bacterial red eye. It's not usually itchy - that would indicate an allergic pink eye. The cause is important as the treatment for each type of pink eye is different. I had viral pink eye when I was on a skiing holiday one year, and had a heavy cold. I think the virus travelled right up to my eyes because I was wearing goggles, and I looked like a puffy eyed frog. You have my sympathies

You have my sympathies I was thinking the same thing. DD had a blocked tear duct when she was born. And yes, the pediatrician had me use breast milk to clear it up! Anytime she gets a cold, it manifests itself in that right eye. The dr had told us to use the Similiason eye drops and warm compresses, gently massaging the corner of the eye to clear up a blockage. You may find yourself better by morning with home treatment.

The pink box stuff mentioned up thread works really well. You might have to look a little, but I've found it at both cvs and Walmart before. Take care.

Why do you need a prescription for pink eye stuff anyway. It's pretty evident someone has pink eye. Bright red, itchy, puss oozing... I think it's just one of those things they need to have everyone get their $$ out of you for the remedy. And they make sure there are exactly 20 drops in the bottle so God forbid you get it in the other eye or someone in the family gets it then they can get more out of you.

90% of pink eye is viral. Drops won't help if it is viral since they are for bacterial infections only. Usually takes 5-7 days for it to get better. Good handwashing, changing pillow cases every night, etc. Your doctor may give you drops because they usually do in case. Where I work they can test to see if it is viral or bacterial and will only treat if it's bacterial. I hope you feel better soon!

I feel for you! Saturday my husband and I traveled about three hours from home to go on a train ride, just before we got on the train my eye started bothering me, I thought it was my contact so I changed it. That was not the problem, by the time we got home my eye was just watering and started to swell, by morning it was almost swollen shut. We found a DR express and was in and out in 45 minutes. It did cost me 30.00. She gave me a prescription for drops and had me start taking allegra. Though I had all symptoms of pink eye she was not really sure that is what it was. My eye is still watering a lot but at least the burning is gone.
Hope yours is better soon.

My kids used to get it all the time and I've taken them to regular Dr. or the ones at the Urgi-care, none of them have ever "tested" for anything. It's always "what's wrong" (look at her eye) and here's the prescription, don't stop until the time is up. Go past Go...
