Drag your stuff to the laundromat a few times and then see how you feel about buying a dryer. I always feel so thankful when I pass one of those that I don't have to sit inside.

My 2002 Ford Explorer needs new brakes. I shouldn't complain though. That vehicle has been the best I have ever owned for needing repair, which was rarely.

I hear you. $500 to have a tree taken down (split with a neighbor.) Have to get the driveway redone. Not Just sealed; it really should be ripped up and reinstalled (I have no idea what it is called.) I need to do something with my landscaping and it is not something I enjoy; I would rather pay someone to do it-but I don't think that is happening this year.

I am getting ready to spend $3000+ on an egress window so I can have a legal bedroom in my basement. It will be great for the resale value of my house, but I just bought it and am not planning to move any time soon. But we want the kids down there to be safe.

Totally agree with you. I'm having my carpets cleaned tomorrow. We had an absolutely horrid virus year around here and I'm spring cleaning like a crazy woman. I know I'll be happy when it's done but ugh. I'd much rather spend money one something fun!

Is it not normal to dry washing outside in the USA? I do have a dryer but only use it maybe 6 times a year, the rest of the time all,the washing goes out.

Just think what a hassle it would be without a dryer, and maybe the purchase won't seem so boring! I wouldn't pay that much for one however. I had to have my roof redone completely last year, then spent hundreds having the drains dug out and replaced. It cost a small fortune, but at least my house is now dry top and bottom

Many neighborhoods will even have ordinances against it. I don't have any personal objection to it but I live in a condo so there is nowhere to hang a line outside and it is against our HOA policies to have laundry drying on our patios.

I won't go to a laundry mat, but I would have to start doing laundry at my mom's house. She has a very nice high tech front loader washer and dryer. It wouldn't be unpleasant.... just inconvenient. This is at least the second comment I've read regarding the price of dryers. The lowest I've found was $299 at Lowe's and Home Depot. I'm not comfortable buying the low end of appliances because in my experience you get what you pay for. Even with one at $299 by the time I pay taxes, delivery (no truck to get it home) and buy the hose thingy and whatnot I can't imagine it being less than $450. So where are you all finding super cheap dryers?

We just paid $1700 for a new washer and dryer last week, and I was totally excited with the purchase!
Got rid of the old washer and dryer (dryer totally died a month ago and we had been air drying everything in our spare bedrooms with strategic fan placement ever since) that were probably 14-15 years old, and got a stacked LG washer and dryer set. Took the opportunity to repaint the (teeny) laundry room that we had never updated when we moved into this house in 2006. Reorganized the room to come up with better storage and use of space in there. It was our main Memorial weekend project, and I am still finding myself looking forward to doing laundry!!

Totally get it we moved and had to buy new appliances and a lot of little things this house just didn't have. I think the most annoying was spending over $200 on LED light bulbs. We have almost 25 or 30 recessed lights and the ones in the house were all 75 or 150 each so we replaced the most used ones with lower watt ones. It also helped as several were humming driving us nuts but that was not a fun bill.
I really hope we are done spending for a while.

Me too! We just paid $1800 to get our van to pass inspection. It's 11 yrs. old, and we just can't afford another one at this point, but now we have put in more in repairs the past 6 months than we would have in car payments.
