I'm usually on the NSBR board, but I have a question that you folks here might be able to help me with.
I've been preparing materials for my organization's booth at an upcoming outdoor festival. I designed two posters, and I picked them up at Staples this afternoon. They look great, but I didn't realize that the posters would be unmounted (I guess I just assumed ...). They are printed on poster paper that is so thin and pliant that it could be curled up to carry home from the store. I need the posters to be flat and rigid, so they can be displayed on easels. (Right now, I'm trying to "correct" the curl by rubber banding them curled the opposite way.)
To save the cost of getting them mounted and/or laminated at the store, I bought colored foamboard at half the price. I plan to glue the posters so that the foamboard serves as both a rigid support and a colorful "frame."
I don't want to buy a new product for gluing, as I'm already over budget. I thought I could use a "permanent" tape runner, which is what I've used for scrapbooks, but I'm not sure it will hold. If not, I guess I could use the tube of Scotch "scrapbooker's glue" with 2-way applicator that I bought several years ago but have never tried. I also have Gorilla glue and Elmer's glue for household repairs.
From these choices, what would you recommend?

I think you will be fine with the tape runner: adhere close to the edges and work from top down and smooth as you go.

If you're really concerned about it staying put, I recommend "Sookwang" or "Scor-Tape". It is incredibly strong and would not peel away. Just like Chartterbox says, I would adhere it close to the edge. It would give you a very smooth finish. I do have to caution you though...it is incredibly sticky and once it is stuck it cannot be moved or adjusted. Good luck!

I have used my ATG gun for that and it held fine. I put a ton of it on just to make sure and it's still holding 5 years later! I would think the permanent tape runner would be similar to the ATG adhesive.

Modge podge is another way to go if want to cover the whole board - fast and easy, works great. You can just apply to the board and then put whatever you want on top - you don't need a top coat - unless you want one.
Eta - I do think the atg would be fine though. DD has used mine for her last few science fair projects and they have held great.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I've never worked with foamboard before, and I wasn't sure if adherence would be a problem. I'll use my tape runner, then, and follow your suggestions on technique. I guess I'm more comfortable with it than trying anything I'm not familiar with. I appreciate the advice.

I've mounted posters on foam board using carpet tape. You can get it from Home Depot - Super cheap and it lasts forever

I'd use rubber cement. Even with a trip to a common store to get it, I think it would be overall cheaper than any "scrapbook" adhesive.

The other suggestions are great, too, but I don't have time or budget for buying anything new. The great experiment is about to begin ... Thanks, everyone.

Just wanted to report that the posters turned out great! I used my tape runner around the edges and at intervals from side to side and top to bottom, and it seems to be adhering well. The only problem was that, because of the size of the posters (18 x 24 inches), after I applied the adhesive to the back, it was not easy to get the poster positioned correctly. (It's so much different with small photos that you can easily lift off and try again.) On my second try, I decided that I could live with it being off by 1/16th of an inch. Foam board is actually a "sandwich" with foam in the middle and paper on the outer surfaces, so I was afraid that, in lifting the poster off to reposition it, I would tear the paper and make the situation worse. I always have to remind myself that "the perfect is the enemy of the good."
