There are so many new colors of Distress that I want but I can't decide which to choose. I usually by Distress Paint daubbers or the ink pads. I am doing more mixed media using modeling paste or gel and want to blend those with a Distress product. What would you recommend? Stain perhaps?

I think it depends a bit on the effect that you're looking for...stain (either dauber or spray) would certainly work and would maintain a sheer or translucent appearance when used with a gel or glaze type product. I have known people who have successfully used the paint to tint modelling paste, but I think with a gel, you would get a somewhat opaque look with paint. I have used very small amounts of re-inker for these purposes. Also, you can "smoosh" an ink pad against your palette / non-stick craft mat / tile or whatever you're mixing your product on to get some ink down and then add in a bit of whatever you want to tint. I find this works best for tinting smallish amounts of mediums as it releases only a modest amount of ink.
I love all the distress colours and agree that it's very difficult to choose what to get...It might be worth doing a little bit of experimenting to see what formulas you like best for your purposes. I would love to hear about what you think works best!

I second what infochick has said about the re-inker. Distress products are designed for the colour to remain consistent no matter which product you are applying. Stains are "already diluted" by which I mean formulated with lots of liquid, to spread easily (dauber) or spray and spread. The re-inker is more "concentrated" by which I mean thicker in consistency, not deeper in colour. Mixing a bit of re-inker into a gel or glaze would add colour without too much extra liquid. Come back and tell us how you get on!

have you thought about just getting the mini pads? they are cheaper. easier to store. And start buying re inkers.

I am in Las Vegas this weekend and was looking for an LSS. I found a HL about 7 miles away. We don't have one yet where I live and I was so excited to go. There was not much "Stain' wise but I did get a Distress Ink pad in Cracked Pistachio!
