I'm providing dinner for 70-80 teens on Saturday and one of their favorite foods is mac 'n cheese. I never grew up eating it, don't know how to make it. Looking for a "good" but traditional recipe that I can make in a large quantity. Nothing too fancy, but what the kids are likely to think of when they think mac 'n cheese. Creamy, cheddary....
HELP!

My daughter loves this recipe. linkWow, and thanks! That's really rich but sounds amazing, but I'd like to sub something for the Velveeta. Any suggestions?

I think there has been a thread on how to make your own Velveeta. The Patti LaBelle recipe looks good!

I wish I could help you, but I don't have a formal recipe that I follow. But I make a roux, add milk, add cheese, salt and pepper and then add the noodles. Bake.
Helpful aren't I? I could probably come up with amounts if you want them, but it's an old school kind of recipe that I just kind of feel my way through.
When I was teaching my friend how to make mac/cheese, I steered her toward Pioneer Woman's recipe. It has step by step pictures and starts with a roux/milk/cheese thing similar to what I do. That way, you can get a feel for amounts and the way it is supposed to look.

I made this one for Christmas dinner and everyone really liked it. It does take condensed cheddar cheese soup which supplements the more expensive grated cheeses. Plus it stayed nice and creamy. Paula Deen's Crock Pot Mac N' Cheese
I think it would be fine to bake in the oven. I only used two eggs.
