I'm a middle school teacher in CA and my students are obsessed with "Charlie/Charlie" this week! It's apparently some sort of "contact the spirit of a dead boy and ask him questions" thing - similar to a Ouija board. They draw a grid on paper with YES in two corners and NO in two corners and lay two pencils along the axes. Then they ask "Charlie" questions and the pencil moves to give them their answer. And apparently if you don't say goodbye to Charlie, he'll haunt you. Which means I'll be haunted since I took the paper from my students and threw it away after asking them multiple times to put it away.
I did a little research on it and apparently it's pretty popular right now, but I'm not sure how far reaching it is.

Yes...it is popular enough in my district that we got a directive from the BOE to put a stop to it. I am in a K-5 building and my 5th graders are really into it. It is a huge distraction and was causing problems during lunch so the higher ups decided to "ban" the game.

My 15 yo DS was talking about this yesterday. I think they played it at school. We're in Southern CA.

Yeah, apparently it "went viral" this weekend. Nothing on Friday at school and yesterday it was the only thing the kids could talk about it seemed. We are in the last week of school so instead of signing yearbooks, everyone wanted to "play"

My 9th grader didn't mention it. The big deal today was a virus they were texting to each other and crashing iPhones. My oldest said he received it 5-6 times.
Virus might not be proper name for problem. My youngest sent it to me "by accident"- he says. My phone didn't crash. I'm probably two OS updates behind, maybe that made a difference.

My 9th grader asked me if I had heard of it the other day. She thinks it's a bunch of hooey, but I guess a lot of kids at her school are into it.

Not just tweens/teens, but younger 20 somethings are into it here in Indiana

My DS tried 4 or 5 times last night to crash my phone. It didn't work. Again, I am behind on updates so that might be the reason.

My two school aged kids were telling me about it this past week. (they do it with pencils and the "yes" & "no")
I'm hoping their school puts an official ban on it soon, as it involves breaking pencils apparently (or Charlie will "inhabit your soul & possess you", apparently. Can you feel my sarcasm?)

Three kids in two districts here and they were all "shutting" each others phones down yesterday. Except, it doesn't even really shut it down. It just pops the apple screen up for a sec. Weird.

Reminds me of a Bloody Mary thing my daughter and friends were doing when she was in school. Spinning around, saying her name three times, and then she is supposed to appear or something. She was terrified about it and had a few nightmares
Funny I read this right after the St Joseph statue post. We humans like our superstitions!

My 9th grade dd hasn't mentioned it. But I doubt she would, I'm sure if she heard about it she rolled her eyes at it.

I'm a middle school teacher. Charlie Charlie has been going on for the past two days. They were crashing each other's phones like crazy yesterday. Sometimes teaching middle school makes me tired.

My son is a sophomore in high school and I saw his ex girlfriend post something about "Charlie" online this week. I wondered what she was talking about! Leave it to the Peas to educate me.

My 21 yo DD mentioned it last night. Just the criss-crossed penciled not the "Charlie/Charlie" name though.

I haven't heard anything from my two but some moms were talking about it in a group. Several of them were all "oh nos, my kids are opening themselves to Satan!" One even said games like that is why she homeschools. Good grief.

When watching the Today show yesterday, there was a segment about it. My 12 yo knew what it was right away. Last night my 4th grader was talking about it as well. We are in MN.

I can only imagine! I only have have a grade 12 kid at home, so he's too old for Charlie, but his friend did send him the text to shut down his phone. He was pissed about it. Lol!

I didn't realize it might be connected as I was plugging into power source. Later I saw a segment on news and remembered to ask my sons. I screenshot for my project life style album.
