BAy Area P here and my 9 year old is totally into it. He asked me to watch the YouTube video with him and he wants me to try it with him, haha. I think the YouTuber he saw it on is named Sundee?

The Charlie-Charlie thing also reminded me of "Bloody Mary" which was popular when I was a tween. It was believed you could summons the spirit of Bloody Mary into a mirror by chanting her name. I was certain she was going to appear in one of my mirrors during the night because some friends chanted her name while we were in my room playing. I was seriously spooked for months even though I never saw her.

When watching the Today show yesterday, there was a segment about it. That is the first I have heard of it.
My daughter 15 hasn't mentioned it at all. Of course school is already out here.

Seems like a spin-off of Bloody Mary. A fun diversion that hopefully will be short lived.

My girls in youth group were telling me about it last night at church. They said it was all over their schools. Some students were getting scared and crying. They said they had not tried it, but they believe it is real. They're 13. Of course they do.

My kids haven't heard of it. However, oddly enough, they blame everything odd that happens in our house on "Charlie" which now kind of freaks me out...LOL

Am I the only one that enjoys having this nternational clearing house to verify how these rumors spread?
I trust RefuPeas, more than what other media says about some trends.

OMG! I am so flipping over this Charlie/Charlie crap.
Not only are my middle schoolers who have to take a HIGH SCHOOL FINAL EXAM next week acting like buffoons right now, they added the Charlie/Charlie crap to really make my blood pressure rise. I'm not a very laid back teacher this week. OMG!
To make it worse, my 13 year old comes to my room last night to tell me all about the Charlie/Charlie crap at her school. She then goes on to tell me that because of it, the Pastor (she goes to a Catholic school) came in to talk to them about it and talked about demonic possession. That got her all freaked out and anxious and she didn't want to sleep in her own bed. So, I had a 13 year old in my bed last night. You can tell how happy I am right now.
Charlie/Charlie needs to stay dead!

Link to a Norwegian newspaper that started discussing this today. I just read the OP a few hours ago, thought that 'I've never heard about that', and then a few hours later it's in my newspaper online. It basically says that teenagers all over the world are being scared of Charlie Charlie, and the game is spreading on the internet. They also interview a professor in something who explains why a pencil moves, and it is no spirit moving it.

Saw this here this morning after my kid was in school. Today at carpool she told me about it. She said it's weird and has nothing to do with it. She just finished 6th grade today.

I'm in FL and shut the game down when I saw a few kids playing it at car riders during dismissal.
Apparently Charlie is a Mexican demon. I told the kids there were no demons named Charlie in Mexican legends/folklore, so they could knock it off. Not sure if that's 100% true, but it sounded legit enough it got them to stop.
One kid tried to tell me that he saw "the real thing" on YouTube.
Sounds like a good opportunity to discuss how you can't trust everything you read on the interwebs with kids.

I haven't heard anything from my two but some moms were talking about it in a group. Several of them were all "oh nos, my kids are opening themselves to Satan!" One even said games like that is why she homeschools. Good grief. I was told this after a bunch of us girls played with a ouija board. All kinds of parents went crazy and they were praying for us, and telling us we had opened ourselves up to Satan and demons, and grilled us endlessly repeatedly asking us what we were thinking. They were far more terrifying than that stupid game. Same thing here. It's all silly.

Link with some possibly correct info But I don't much trust journalists these days to actually do any real work, so for all I know they googled all of this too and then wrote up a story about it.

Yes! All of my 9th graders are talking about it. I had to throw one away the other day because a girl wanted to do make it during class.

Yes we have banned it and are emailing and calling parents if their child persists on 'playing' and shouting out Charlie Charlie during the school day. I definitely don't think its a reason to homeschool (lol) but seriously some of these kids just follow along with everyone else without ever thinking for themselves! Anything to keep off the topic at hand which is EXAMS!!

My home schooler loves Charlie, lol. My youngest one, anyway. She also reads her horoscope every day, carries lucky talismans to auditions for ballet, and throws salt over her shoulder. She is 13, what can I say?
Unfortunate that home schooling didn't protect her from being a dumb ass, I guess? I doubt that's what the lady meant, but that's my take on it.

It's things like this that make me sooooo happy that I'm retired. Middle schoolers are nutsy enough at the end of the year with nothing going on. It will be over soon teachers- hang in there!

My teens had no clue when I asked them about it. I asked mine last night and they were clueless. They did tell me about how everyone's talking about the text messages that crashes phones. They have androids so they haven't had a problem.

I'm so glad we're out of school already. We broke for summer just in time to avoid the stupidity with Charlie it looks like. Although my HS son and his friends are sending each other the mean iPhone text. DS's ex sent it to him not realizing that he hadn't set his iPhone up yet as a phone so it went to his old bar phone instead. It didn't work when he sent it to one of his friends though.

So...who tried it? I made the grid but I couldn't get the top pencil to balance on the bottom one so it would freely move. DANGIT! I really wanted to see if it is going to rain tomorrow! What really makes the pencils move? There must be some scientific reason they move.

My 9th grader didn't mention it. The big deal today was a virus they were texting to each other and crashing iPhones. My oldest said he received it 5-6 times. Virus might not be proper name for problem. My youngest sent it to me "by accident"- he says. My phone didn't crash. I'm probably two OS updates behind, maybe that made a difference. My DS tried 4 or 5 times last night to crash my phone. It didn't work. Again, I am behind on updates so that might be the reason. My son tried sending the 'virus' to me. Nada. No effects whatsoever.

My 8th grade daughter saw a clip about it on Good Morning America and she had never heard of the new obsession. Her only comment was people can be so stupid.
