It makes me sad. I love the cartridges. I just subscribed to the Cricut Craftroom library for $10/month. I've even been considering a Cricut Explore, just because I love the cartridges, but do wish it cut details better.
However, we upgraded to Mac OS 10.9 on my laptop and CCR doesn't work with it. They are apparently working on it, but 10.9 came out last October, so it should have been working long ago. I'm just so frustrated. This is the last straw for me.
I would need to sell my Cricut in order to purchase a Silhouette, so I can't keep both.
I'm so bummed.

That sucks to not be able to use a machine you still enjoy.
Is there any way you could save the images from the carts you like and use your new Silhouette to cut them?

I have no idea, other than scanning them in. That seems like way too much work.

I bought a Silhouette and kept my Cricut, but I've never touched the Cricut since the Silhouette arrived. I still need to get around to selling the Cricut.

I've used my Cricut Expression 2 twice in the eight months since I got my Silhouette Cameo. I use my Cameo all the time. The E2 cuts better than the original Expression, but the Silhouette is even better at cutting details. The new Explore has a very slight edge on the Silhouette, but not by much. I like many of my cartridge designs, but I rarely need them. I have many Silhouette designs I like as well or better in most cases.

I did it and have not regretted at all. There is so much more you can do with the Silhouette. The print and cut feature is awesome. I did keep my Cricut, but haven't used once.

I have had a Silhouette for over a year, I love it.
I still have my Cricut and all the cartridges and have thought about selling it from time to time. I keep it so I can use my CTMH cartridges and stamp sets with it, I still like those. I have the extra room for it and it isn't in the way so for now I'll hang onto it even though I really don't use it much anymore.

I have both.... I feel the Cricut Explore out-cuts the Cameo..... But the new Design Space software is online only and is very basic. If you already have a large cartridge library or a subscription, I would recommend you try Design Space and see what you think before making a decision. You will need to link your cartridges before using them with the Explore. If you have questions, I would be happy to answer them.
There is a fix for CCR btw..... Came out months ago.... I run it just fine on my new Mac.

i still have the Expression and over 100 cartridges and the Gypsy. I don't like being tied to my computer. I rarely use the Expression. I have not really scrapped in several years. I will however use it occasionally to do projects, either for my classroom or a gifts. I cannot justify buying a new machine when I don't use it enough. I use it several times a year for my classroom. I will use before to make signs for my classroom, for christmas presents from the students, end of the year gifts to volunteers, Mother's Day gifts. But that is really it. And I always seem to use the same cartridges over and over. Rarely will I go into my cricut cartridge pile.
I did look at the Explore and it way quieter than the E, and it tempted me. Before that I was tempted by Silhouette. But I don't think I NEED either.

I sold my Expression and bought the Cameo a few years ago. I didn't have a ton of money tied up in cartridges because I was able to use SCAL with the Expression. This made the change over to the Cameo easy to - but there is a bit of a learning curve. Do a few simple projects and you catch on fast though. I have heard good things about the new Explore, but the fact that is is only functional if you are using their Design Space Online software is a major detraction. If your internet is down, or they go down for maintenance or any other reason - the machine is not usable at all. the Design Space software itself is not great. If you have SCAL or MTC you could use that to design and then export the SVG to cut with the Explore. I love Print & Cut, and it works SO good with the Silhouette. SO good! I know that the Explore is supposed to be coming out with this feature, but for the life of me I can't figure out why it didn't work when they released it. There are a few other machines on the market that have had this feature for years, so it certainly isn't anything new. You can download the free version of Silhouette Studio now and play around with it. You can do everything but cut (you can print from it without having the machine). The design part of the software is actually pretty decent. There are a few blogs and Facebook groups that are SUPER helpful. If you look at the Silhouette School Blog - you can find some great tutorials and projects. Go back to some early posts to find the simple things to get you started.

I have both the Cricut Create and the Silhouette (not the Cameo) and use them about equally. I probably have about the same invested in each of them. Got the Cricut on clearance because it was a returned one, and have purchased a handful of cartridges on an 'as I needed them' basis. For the Silhouette, I do enjoy being able to cut any font, but like the cricut, usually don't purchase shapes until I have a need for them.

I just reinstalled the plugin from the link i gave in the post above........ CCR opens and runs fine...... You may need to change your system preferences>>>>>security & privacy settings to ANYWHERE temporarily to get CCR to install....... Remember to change it back after installation has finished. This setting prevents malware and other bugs :-)

The problem is the CCRBridge problem mentioned in this post. us.cricut.com/forum/cricut-community_postst169034_Cannot-hook-up-Cricut-expression-to-my-Mac.aspxIf you scroll to the bottom, you will see that the last communication was from Cricut, 4 days ago. It's still not fixed.

Go to adobe and download and install the latest version of adobe air. If that doesn't work, call PC tomorrow. Tell them you have a subscription you are unable to use.... They will make accommodations for that so you can get an adjustment for when it's up and running.

You'll love the Cameo. I have both the Cricut and cameo and tend to use the Cameo more.

Good Luck with your decision.

I keep my Cricut for my kids, but other than that, I use my Cameo all of the time. There are probably similar images to the ones you love, plus you don't have to be online to use your software!
