articleOh, that poor kid. To my knowledge, marijuana is still illegal in PA. But I was wondering what is in synthetic marijuana that could make someone violent. Admittedly ignorant on the subject, is it very different from natural marijuana? And if the synthetic marijuana caused him to be violent, how does that impact the argument for legalizing marijuana with the reasoning that it is a harmless drug?

The problem is, you just have no idea what is in synthetic marijuana. It could really be anything. It's not like there is a regulatory agency that monitors what people put in it.

Synthetic marijuana is NOTHING like real marijuana. It creates major psychosis and other issues. Many times it's very dangerous and even lethal. m.huffpost.com/us/entry/3908171

Synthetic marijuana is commonly known as Spice and here is some of the history. Military & Spice useAlso: There is controversy about calling Spice and K2 synthetic cannabis. Synthetic marijuana is a misnomer according to Lewis Nelson, MD, a medical toxicologist at the NYU School of Medicine. "It's really quite different, and the effects are much more unpredictable. It's dangerous, and there is no quality control in what you are getting."[4] Since the term synthetic does not apply to the plant but rather to the chemical that the plant contains (tetrahydrocannabinol), the term synthetic cannabinoid is more appropriate.[5] Research on the safety of synthetic cannabinoids is now becoming available. Initial studies are focused on the role of synthetic cannabinoids in psychosis. Synthetic cannabis may precipitate psychosis and in some cases it may be prolonged. Some studies suggest that synthetic cannabinoid intoxication is associated with acute psychosis, worsening of previously stable psychotic disorders, and it may trigger a chronic (long-term) psychotic disorder among vulnerable individuals such as those with a family history of mental illness.

See, I was thinking that synthetic just meant that it was grown in a lab in a special way or something, as opposed to grown outside by non-professionals.

Synthetic marijuana is also known as "bath salts." The formulas change so often that state laws have trouble keeping up with it. It's very scary stuff.

The synthetic marijuana is also called "spice" and some stores around here were trying to sell it. There was a big issue with people taking it and going crazy etc. They have banned it and immediately closed any stores in the city trying to sell it.

Spice has been a big issue around here. It's illegal so some store owners have been arrested for selling it. There have also been quite a bit of teens going to the hospital due to taking it. The people I know who use or have used marijuana generally have a specific dealer they buy from so they trust that what they are getting is the real thing.

Is synthetic marijuana legal in the states that have legalized marijuana?
