I have been stalking all local stores and the internet for the last couple of weeks trying to find some adjustable brackets to hold planter boxes over a deck railing. I live in a condo and they will not let us attach anything to the siding, so I need some brackets that don't screw in to mount. I know they exist, my grandma had some but they only extended to fit a 2x6 and I need 2x8. Can anyone give suggestions as to where to look for these? Or maybe there's some great internet shopping site for gardeners I don't know about?

Have you checked lowes? Or Home Depot.
If you can't find anything, maybe you could find metal straping and try wraping that around your box and railing. There is a special type of screw you use with tho.

It's so frustrating because I know what I want exists because I have seen it, I just can't find it to buy!

Have you checked Amazon? I remember buying planter boxes and brackets from them when I lived in an apartment.

That second link won't fit over the railing, but I haven't considered that type of a box holder. I'll take a look around for something similar to that. Thanks.

You wrap it around whatever you want to secure, overlap the ends and fasten it together with a special kind of screw. You don't screw it into anything. So you can get this stuff wap it around your planter box and the rail.

Would this work? 2x8 deck railing brackets I saw those last night before posting the thread. Going from the pictures it looks like it might work because the other parts screw into those brackets not the wood of the railing. I may try to order them and see how it works. I'm hesitant though because it says in the item description that they are discontinued, it lets me add the item to the cart though so I think I'll give it a shot.
