I started a new job in January and well, I think I finally need to start decorating my cubicle. I have googled and I have searched pinterest and well, I'm finding bits and pieces of what I like, but I'm not finding much of what I like and I don't know where to start. I don't want to go all out with a whole theme and I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I would love to get rid of the mesh, generic desk organizer I have, I'd like to put up some photos and I'd like to make it a bit more welcoming. It's a big cubicle - like two people could fit comfortably, big - and I feel lucky to have the space, but it's just so...cubicle blah. I'm in HR and it's important to me that people feel comfortable, relaxed and welcome when they come in to my space to talk to me. I also spend most of my day in there, so I want it to be comfortable for me as well.
I don't have any desk drawers, so my necessities - pens, paperclips, stapler, etc. - need to be stored on my desk top. I was also gifted a plant that sits on a small table next to my workspace at the entrance of my space.
I have one wall that can take push-pins/velcro and I think I want to put some light-weight framed photos there. I could also accommodate a small desk lamp or two. I think my major issues are that I would like some different desk-top storage solutions that look nice, but don't take a lot space. I bought a nice glass candle-holder for my pens. I have a glass dish or two for paperclips. I have a small puppy-yoga calendar and that is both useful and a great conversation starter (I had no idea how many people I work with do yoga - I don't, I just liked the calendar).
I'm wondering - if you work in a cubicle, what have you done to make it less sterile and more you?
