Ok, I know many of you have a Fitbit. I want to order one today but honestly I have been confused over which model to get. Price isn't really a consideration but I don't need to get the very best high tech one that does everything except wipe your butt. So, please weigh in on which one you have and give me recommendations. Background: I have lost #50 and want to lose another #20. I'm looking for a nudge off the plateau. I HATE exercise yet with a nutrition background, I know the only thing that really counts is intake and output of energy (calories). Walking, I can do, will do, and do enjoy. I think this snazzy little device will actually give me some motivation. I don't need anything super fancy, because truthfully all I will do is walk. Thanks in advance for your input.

I wouldn't get the fanciest one, i'd get the one that's one step down from that.

I've had a Fitbit Zip for the past 2 or 3 years and it's all I need. It just keeps track of steps -- no tracking of sleep or flights climbed.
I don't think I could stand to wear anything on my wrist 24/7. I clip my Fitbit to my bra and forget it.
It's a great motivator.

I recently received the Fitbit flex and it's been great! It's really helped me to get moving and be mindful of my activity level. It's fine for me, love the instant updates on the app. I love to walk too and I'm meeting the 10,000 steps almost every day, and enjoying it too.

I have a charge (not an HR) and I like it because it's a watch and an alarm too (vibrating only)that I use a lot. If I had the flex, which has no display, I would feel like I had this thing on my wrist that does nothing for me without checking my phone for stats.

I have the fitbit one and I love it. I just use it for the steps and flights of stairs. I don't like things on my wrist so while I think the flex is cool, I'd never wear it. I am in a group with my kids who are very active and I really get motivated trying to keep with them. Once in a while, I am even at the top of the group but that is usually because they haven't synced in a bit - I take it any way it comes though and work hard to stay up there.

I have a Fitbit One that I have had for over 2 years. I use it mainly for steps and stairs. I tried all the other stuff, but really like that I can clip it on my bra and be done.
I hate wearing something on my wrist all the time and this I don't even think about.

I have the Flex. It does have lights on it to tell you the general number of steps you are at for the day. One light is 0-2000, 2 lights is 2,000-4000 etc. and it vibrates and flashes at 10,000. It does not calculate stairs but otherwise it's a great motivator.
The only problem I have is that when pushing the grocery cart it does not count steps accurately (it does when I push the stroller it must be a difference in my arm movement) but it LOVES when I mow the lawn...

I have the Charge HR. Like you, I'd lost about 50-60 and had a little more to lose. I've had mine since February, and I love it! I wear it every day, all day. It really forces (shames, LOL) me on those days I don't feel like doing anything. Plus, I feel that it gives me a better picture of how many calories I'm burning during the day, rather than just during a workout.
I've lost about 8 pounds since I got my Fitbit, and only have another 7 to go. I think I'll continue to wear it even on maintenance. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!
ETA: another feature I like is that you can set it to vibrate when your phone rings, and if it's a contact their name will show up on your watch. I never hear my cell and miss a lot of calls.

I have the Flex and it's perfect for my needs. I only use the steps and sleep parts. DS won a Charge the other day and has it all set up. It said he walked 23 flights of stairs yesterday. He was like WHAT? He's an accountant.

I have the Flex and I love it. I actually just bought a new one because my old one died after several years. I looked at the newer ones, but I didn't like the way they fit like a watch. They just weren't me. I like to switch the bands out so the Flex is perfect for me. It does light up and has indicators along the way to give you a ballpark idea of your steps and if course it syncs with my phone so I can check anytime and get a count. It vibrates and lights up when you reach your step goal for the day. I'm happy I went with another one.

Fitbit Charge is what I have and LOVE IT! It shows the time and date, counts steps, flights of stairs, calories burned, and miles walked. Also, if you have a smart phone you can somehow sink it to the fitbit and have caller ID. I don't have a smart phone so I don't know any more that that. I have lost 6 pounds by just walking. When you set up a Fitbit account you get "medals" on your board for your accomplishments and that is what keeps me challenges.

Okay, another question for you all. Thanks for your replies they are very helpful. Is it best to buy right from the Fitbit website or can you get better deals on Amazon? I know some things like ipads, ipods, etc. are pretty much the same price wherever you go. Wondering if this gadget is like that. Oh, another question...how complicated is the setup and daily use, tech wise? TIA.

ETA: regarding setup, I thought it would be really hard so it took me from Christmas until April to get serious and do it. It really was simple. I don't have my synced to my phone since I have an older Android model but it syncs to my computer pretty easily.

I bought my first one from Fitbit and my second from Amazon. Same price. I wanted prime shipping although IIRC the Fitbit site ships very quickly also. The setup is very simple.

I've had several different models (lost one, broke one, and now have my third). I currently have a Charge and like that it is one piece (so I don't have to remove the tracker from the wristband in order to charge it). It may seem like a little thing but I find that I always wear it because it is so easy to charge. I didn't find much difference between the features....consider joining groups on Fitbit to keep you motivated.

I have several *friends* on my Fitbit dashboard who motivate me to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. They have dogs and are able to be much more active than I have time for. BUT the past week or so I have really stepped up my steps and have now passed one of them for the weekly totals. It was a real accomplishment and gets me off my butt! I'm also on a planking challenge with several friends from high school (we have our 50th reunion next spring and want to be in shape.) I find if you have someone to motivate you whether it be to exercise, read, eat healthy, etc. it helps!

I have the little zip because I don't like wearing something on my wrist. I got mine a few years ago at Meijer when they had a promo.

I think pricing is pretty standard, no matter where you but it. Costco sells the Flex and Charge but not the Charge HR (at least mine doesn't).

I have some advise for you if you are considering between the One and the Zip. My DH had One and I have Zip. He lost his and I had mine for almost 2 years. He had to charge his every other week using his computer. I just need to change a battery every 3 months or so. I wear my zip 24/7.

I have a Charge and I love it. It keeps me motivated plus I can hook it up with my weightwatcher online account. One thing it did for me, was make me realise why I felt so rubbish some, mornings. Like really drained. When I synced my fitbit it showed I had woken 12 times during the night! Or at least was restless. That was interesting for me as I know when I'm feeling like that, I overeat and all the wrong things. So I like the sleep function thing.

I have the Fitbit Zip. I hate things on my wrist, also. Easy to set up and zero maintenance. I did think it was pretty cool when my Fitbit emailed me and warned me my battery was getting low so I quickly ordered some batteries from Amazon and everything was good. Oh, word of warning-keep that little battery cover opener tool thingie in a place that you can find it! It's not easy to open the cover without the tool. I also like the summary emails for the week - they go into my Project Life!

Great thread. I hadn't really considered getting one until reading all of your responses. Thanks, OP for the original question! I'm surprised though, that they don't have one that looks a little more classy...you know, like a gold watch. I'm in business attire for work, and I'm afraid that silicone looking band looks more like the gym than the office.

DH mentioned to me yesterday that Amazon had Flex for about $78. Check the website Camel Camel Camel. That's where he said he saw it. I found mine for $80 on Amazon a couple weeks ago. There were on sale everywhere the week leading up to Mother's Day.
I was trying to decide between the Flex and Charge and tried on both. The Charge was a little too wide for my preferences. The Flex doesn't bother me.
I linked my Flex to the LoseIt app. It's been very motivating. I have no issue with having to look on my phone for my stats because I'm on it regularly anyway to log my food into LoseIt and I also keep track of my water consumption on the FitBit app.

I think Amazon has some and I think I saw things on Etsy too. They also offer a Tory Burch band on the FitBit site if that style appeals to you,

I have the One. Quit wearing it because it was tearing up my bras.
I put it in my pocket occasionally and liked that, but I don't always have pockets or pockets deep enough that I was comfortable I wouldn't lose the thing.
I loved that it synced with my phone. That was the best part.
Have considered getting a different one to wear on my wrist. But, I really don't think that will work out for me.
If you consider the Zip or One, you can get them at Kohl's. When I bought mine, it was $99. I earned $15 Kohl's cash and it had a $25 rebate.

I have seen similar devices in dressier settings. Not sure which company though. I also saw some accessories that were like a flower um...adornment? Cute. Thank you ladies for all of your help! I love coming here and learning from you all. I ordered the Charge from Amazon. I ordered it last night and have Prime so (kind of) two day shipping. I am excited!

Fitbit Charge user here. Got it the week of Christmas and had it set up and synced to my iPhone before I left the Best Buy parking lot, lol! Very simple with an iPhone and the FitBit app. Like another poster mentioned, I love it for the sleep tracking. Whether it's 100% accurate or not, it's consistent. So I know if I'm feeling like crap and then look at my sleep patterns, I can make draw some general conclusions. I do not use it to track food or water or anything, I only look at the steps and the sleep. I love mine! I don't buy into the whole "must be in the fat-burning HR zone", so I didn't wait for the HR one. I don't care about heart rate as much as I care about overall fitness and staying healthy by moving. Just my opinion on that, obviously. Some folks swear by HR zones so that's totally cool, just not my cup of tea. I love my Fitbit Charge and take it off only to shower or swim.
