I have a 1/3 carat diamond solitaire that I don't wear. For some odd reason, I develop a rash on my ring finger when ever I wear it. My finger will itch and I have scratched raw spots on my finger. I have thought about selling it since I don't wear it. DD has my original engagement ring put up for DGD. I can wear silver/white gold without any issues.
If you have sold your jewelry, where is the best place to try? Have you received a decent amount of money for it? Or should I also just give it to DD for DGD(who is only 9)?

You could have it reset...
If selling go to a good jewelers and they may buy it...

I have an appointment to sell my mother's rings next week, as it happens, to meet with a local jeweler who gives the best prices around for gold. He already told me that the diamond itself is worth hardly anything, but the gold should be worth several hundred dollars.
I found him by asking people I knew if they had sold gold and this guy's name kept coming up as the one with the best prices.

Unless you are desperate for money, I wouldn't sell it - you won't get much for a diamond that size. I'd get it either reset in a metal you can wear as a ring, or better yet, have it reset as a pendent that you or your daughter could wear on a chain.

I agree with elaine. Diamond prices are pretty flat. And for anything less than a carat, you really won't get much.

I traded my old ring (from a previous marriage) in on my new diamond ring, and was given credit of just a couple hundred dollars for the gold and the diamond both (the diamond was a 1/2 carat marquise - not a desirable shape). I'd keep your diamond and do something else with it - a charm for a bracelet might be nice.

I sold an engagement ring when the engagement was over. My mom put up flyers at work, and someone wanted it (this was pre-Craigslist days). I got what I asked for, which was what was left on the loan - so the buyer got about 33% off retail.

I tried selling my 1/2 carat round solitaire on consignment on two separate occasions but was not successful. I ended up removing the diamond from the setting and selling the setting for scrap and the diamond to one of those buying gold places on the internet. Got less than we paid but in the end, I just wanted the ring gone. I don't remember how much I got for the gold but it was around $400 for the diamond.

The same thing happens to my fingers. I figured out its because of where the gold was made and what other metals they added to it. I fix the problem every few years by having my ring replated. Costs about $25 and takes a week or so.
My husband and I used to sell jewelry online and bought rings like yours. I can assure you that he didn't pay much for them.

There is a HUGE markup in the jewelry business. A lot of people I see on FB trying to sell their solitaires think that because they paid $1000 for a ring that it's worth that.
I'd keep the diamond.

Years and years ago I tried to sell my diamond and was told even at the time that it almost wasn't worth it to try to sell it. I ended up using a smaller pair of diamond earrings, my original solitaire (the one I was trying to sell was 'upgrade') and the upgrade and had them made into a ring I can wear anytime. I call it my Freedom ring.

I found the paper for it and it is actually a 1/2 carat and we paid $1650 for it about 16 years ago. I will probably just give it to DD to put up for DGS since she has my original engagement ring put up for DGD. Digging through my jewelry I found an old pink ice solitaire set in white gold that I am wearing now. I love pink. Just as long as I have something on the ring finger on my left hand makes me happy.
I talked to a local jeweler and they told me the market has been flooded with diamonds lately and their value has gone way, way down. The only diamonds with any value are one that are several carats is what I was told.

My wedding band does the same thing to my finger about once every 5 years. My friend owns a jewelry store and I send it to him and he boils it in something in the store and it kills all the germs and stuff from daily wearing and then no rash for years.
Might be a simple fix.

Both of our names were on the loan, and frankly, I had done most of the paying. When we broke up, he wanted no part of it. He said, "Do what you want with it, but I'm not paying another dime." I felt fortunate that I didn't lose more money on it (or my good credit, for that matter).
We were young and not terribly wise.

My engagement ring is made from platinum. I am allergic to nickle and will develop a rash with nickle. I was really mad when I developed a rash from my platinum engagement ring that we had made at a well know local jeweler.
I ended up calling a precious metals professional organization and spoke with one of their members. He asked if I used anti-bacterial soaps. I said yes and he said the rash was a reaction to that. He told me to clean my ring and to not use anti-bacterial soaps/gels on a regular basis. He was right! My finger is rash and itch free if I don't use anti-bacterial soaps and gels.

I sell my diamonds and gold in the diamond district nyc
you could get your ring rhodium plated. That may help.
