I love to see the bargains people found. But when we keep adding on to the old thread, it is difficult for some of us on certain devices to get to the last pages. And sometimes I get there to find nothing new added A weekly thread would be much easier to read

I didn't know some devices limited page views. Bummer - what do you do when a controversial thread goes multi-page?! I agree the Garage Saling/Thrifting/Antiquing threads are getting loooooong. And it seems there are people who want to post photos, but need help learning how. heartcat usually starts the threads. Heartcat, what say you?

So maybe the title should lead off with 'Week of June 1'.... I love seeing everyone's finds.
This week, dh found 4 cast iron flat irons some with bases for $17. He is planning to open an Esty store with repurposed old stuff. Like old ice tongs, the cast iron one, mounted on a barn board to hold paper towel on a dowel. He also got some oil hurricane lamps that he may electrify.

A new thread sounds good! I finally got to go this weekend. My favorite find was a huge galvanized pan (similar to a cookie sheet). It's 18"x36"! I'm going to put it on the wall and use it for a magnetic board in my office. I paid $1. The other good find was a new Tervis cup for $2.

I thought that might help you for future threads.

Such clever repurposing ideas. < Note to self: In a week or so, when you're done working, start some repurposing threads. >

I don't know if that was you or not but I love it, particularly when it's a multi-page thread. I also think a weekly thread is a great idea. Maybe one of these weekends I will actually make it to a sale so I can contribute. I am one of those refupeas who has difficulty posting photos though.

Have dd visiting this week but we went to one at a church. I got a book by Anne Graham Lotts: My Hearts Cry. I've already finished it and it was really good. Dd got shoe racks. We also bought homemade cookies for dgc. And the kids cleaned out the 2 free boxes outside the door.

I actually did start one a couple of days ago titled something like 'Last weekend in May thrifting check ins'. But no one posted on it and it got buried! I am happy to do a new thread each weekend, I usually do during garage sale season, but since I didn't get out the two previous weekends, I didn't. Anyone who wants is happy to start a new thread though! I didn't realize some people might have trouble accessing a longer thread. Newfcathy those irons your dh found sound cool. Great idea for an Etsy store too. Gotranch, what a great idea for a magnetic board, and sounds like a good size. Had you been on the hunt for something specifically to use, or did you just see it at the sale and get inspired? Elaynef, now shoe racks are something I could really use! And we always buy some of the homemade baking at a church sale if they have some. I particularly love to find date squares, because I never make those myself. I found some things I was happy with this weekend. I'll try to find and bump the other thread for anyone who is interested rather than recap. Thanks for sharing, ladies!

It was an inspiration. I spotted it and thought - Hey I could use that! I wasn't sure that it was even for sale. It had a bunch of paint cans and some other stuff piled on it on the ground.

I love looking at those threads. The thing though is that I have never really gone out to garage sales or thrift stores. All I see is "junk" or stuff I would have gotten rid of from my home. Imagination for repurposing is what I lack. Now I don't have a lot of experience repurposing something, but I'm a quick learner. I just can't seem to figure out how to learn "having a vision". At the very least, I get to enjoy the threads here! There is nothing wrong with not wanting to thrift. I really don't like yard sales because you have to go to so many to find something interesting. But us is interesting to see what people get rid and what people will buy. Like broken crayons... But I do know a woman who uses them to make candles and she makes fun shape crayons.

I bought a vintage typewriter. When I took it in today to get cleaned, the guy asked me how much I paid. I told him $85 and he was shocked and said those kinds usually go for upwards of $300+. He tried to buy or trade with me but I declined. I can't wait to get it back so I can post a pic here.

I love that pagoda! I'm on the hunt for old crappy pictures with nice frames. I don't need ones with glass, just the picture is fine. I want to make and sell chalkboards. I did up one that was 24"x36" for my son's wedding for the Bar Menu and got a ton of compliments. Went on Etsy and saw that people are charging anywhere from $160 up to $240 for something I made for $30.

That is probably a good idea **GypsyGirl**, I wouldn't have thought about doing that! I'd figure if it was valuable, it wouldn't be in a garage sale or thrift store.

I'd figure if it was valuable, it wouldn't be in a garage sale or thrift store. Not everyone does their homework, especially when they're just trying to get rid of great-grandma's "junk" that has been handed down three generations already. Every now and then, there's a news story about something extremely valuable showing up at a goodwill or a savers or what have you.

Just yesterday there was a news story about a woman who donated boxes of her late husband's stuff to a recycling company. Turns out that in one of the boxes was one of the original Apple 1 computers! There were only something like 200 of them ever made back in the 70's. A collector paid them $200,000 for it and they are trying to find the woman to split the proceeds with her! So truly, one man's trash is another man's treasure! Seriously? My son just told me that my brother in law has one of these.

I went to my first estate sale. I scored a box of lightbulbs for $3, the ones I really wanted in the box retailed for about $10-$12 so I scored. Wrapping paper but I wanted the kraft roll ,$2 for all the rolls. Then the potted plants , each $8 huge and of course the type of plant escapes me.
Then I went to a school flea market and scored NEW duplo set for my daughter for $7 instead of $15 and 4 new Tupperware lids for $5.

I'm trying a new guy and I don't want to give out his name until I get my typewriter back and I see how well he did. I found him on yelp and he got all 5 stars so I decided to try him.

I got a purse (looks like Vera Bradley but isn't) for 50 cents. I washed it and have been using it and every where I go, people are commenting on my pretty VB purse!
Dh scored at a garage sale... he doesn't usually go to them but was passing by one on Saturday. They were selling Longaberger baskets, with liners and protectors and he got 2 larger ones for $5 each.

papersilly: No, I didn't think we lived near each other; I just didn't understand that a typewriter repair person would do the cleaning. I get it now. (I had no idea those guys still existed, but if they do, I'm guessing I can find one in Chicago.) Thanks.

Let me find his site and I'll link his list so you can look it over. Just gotta run over to Michaels real quick. Will do it when I get back.

Perfect! I found a couple places near me that have websites. I can't believe somebody compiled an international list. (Ain't the Internet grand?) Thank you!
