This is my first episode watching "live" as I have binge watched 4.5 seasons in the last 2 months. I'm bummed there is no thread to share the experience with someone What did you think? Only two episodes left in the season, what do you think they will end it with? I read book one and then started watching the shows. Haven't had time to read all of them ( was going through book 2) when started binge watching with a friend. I was going to jump to book five but that seems to go along with book 4 so I may start there.

My husband thought last night's episode was one of the best ever.
I am excited by the thought of Daenerys and Tyrion in cahoots -- that should be fun! And I hope she forgives Jorah soon. I think she's going to need him before long.
I hate the story line with Sansa.

The war scene was long but I liked the episode. Those are some scary white walkers! I don't feel bad for Cersei...not sure what is going to happen there. I really like the Tyrion/Daenerys story line.

I'm glad Sansa finally knows that Bran and Rickon weren't killed - and last week she found out that Jon is as well. I really want a reunion for all the Stark children but I know that won't happen this season. (If ever.)
The battle with the White Walkers was epic. And Valyrian steel can stop them! But I really don't see how they can be defeated when everyone who is killed turns into one. Maybe the Dragons will be the key to taking them out?

I turned to dh as they were loading the boats in the epic battle scene and said, "the walkers are coming, and there aren't enough boats. Not enough by half. Half the wildings on this beach are going to die tonight."
There is a Titanic quote for all things.
Anyhow. I loved last night's episode and plan to re-watch. I am so excited to see Tyrion advising Dany. That hasn't happened (yet) in the books and is an awesome development. Watching Cersei's fall is delicious. And I am not usually one for battles, but man -- that zombie/walker/wilding battle was something else. The whole thing might have been worth it just to see the amazing fighting wilding mom who confronts the zombie kids and realizes she can't kill them. Or when the zombies all jump off of the cliff and you are like, yay, dead zombies, and then they reassemble to fight again. Both the books and show have been insisting that the mortal battles are small potatoes as compared to the threats beyond the wall, but this is the first time since the first episode that they have made you believe it. Creepy! Scary! Awesome!

I agree with you all!
1. My DH couldn't understand why I was getting concerned when I finally turned to him and said, "Darnit, the first episode I watch live better not be the one they kill off Jon Snow in!!!"
2. I like the idea of Tyrion and Dany too. I think she might forgive Jorah after fit in the pit next week?
3. Cersei licking water off the ground is pretty classic, although the high sparrow stuff seems stupid and not sure how that will end well
4. Aria's story seems so disconnected.
5. I also hope for a Stark children reunion of sorts. I think Jon will eventually head to Winterfell with Stanis, but it will be awhile. I only hope Sansa can get rescued somehow soon. I'm assuming Brienne is still waiting and will come back in somehow.
6. I agree with the above - dragon fire might be able to kill them. So far it seems the only thing that might work. Getting the rest of Westeros to work with Dany, or to have Dany get there in time doesnt' seem likely though.
My understanding is that books 6 and 7 aren't written yet, but HBO is moving forward anyway - is that right?

I am so glad that Tyrion and Dany are finally together! I loved their exchange over the wine. I enjoyed that whole episode and cannot wait to see what happens!
I am glad that Theon/Reek finally told Sansa he didn't kill her brothers. I know she still has little use for him but I felt like that was the first step to him trying to heal as best he can. I still hold out hope he will help her escape or at least get her somewhere where Brienne can grab her and get her out of there. I think Brienne may end up having to help Jon and Stannis when they head towards Winterfell.
Oh, I also need to see the flayed man removed from Winterfell in the opening scene! It's just wrong!

I also will say that I didn't realize they didn't do the "inside this episode" at the end of the show on Sundays. I love that part of it.

that episode was AWESOME. Tyrion and Dany are going to be a fun pairing, it was fun watching them together. I love Jorah and think he is a badass but I wonder how long before he becomes all stone (or whatever you call that). I really liked the new Wildlings girl, too bad she got killed so fast the fight scene was great. Jon and Wildling Red Beard also make a great pairing, I was scared he was going to die last night. Im starting to like him. this part was freaky! Im glad the giant made it out

the clicking sound their eyes made when they opened .... ewww! ^^^^exact same thing at our house! My friend posted a fake spoiler on FB which I accidentally saw ... she posted that Cersai escaped and Tyrion was dead. So I was really perturbed for awhile. battle scene was epic and we loved the Mom who couldn't kill the kids She was spunky... until she wasn't.

Agree with a lot of the above. I don't ever remember seeing a GOT episode where they updated almost every story line. I liked that, because I thought I was going to have to wait another week to see what was going on with Cersei.
Is is anyone else thinking, Stannis, dude, surely you've got intelligence in the South. Get out of the frigging North and head for King's Landing. It's warm and lacking strong leadership--ripe for a takeover.

was the mom who couldn't kill the kids the Danish actress from Pitch Perfect 2 (from DSM)?
It wasn't her kids right? Her kids made it in the boats.... I knew she wouldn't make it though right then - no shocker there.

i was yelling at that giant to put his little pinky in jons boat and pull them out to sea instead he just walked on by past them drifting in the water away from the shore also on a feminist note, i have to say i really like the way i've seen the wildlings treat their women - seems more equal, especially the role the mother was given in the decision to go unlike the other houses who just rape them and barter them around amongst each house but of course they did kill the only equal woman (the mother) off so there's that

Winter has arrived!
Thought it was an epic episode.
As far as the ending, I think it's fairly predictable at least one of the characters we like is going to get killed off.

Yep, I knew she was doomed when she put her kids in the boat and told them she'd follow right behind them. That's always a clue that person is never going to make it out of there.
I loved last night's episode to and DS said it was one of the best episodes. That battle was incredible. DS thought Jon's sword was going to play a big role somehow because they kept showing the handle of the sword (foreshadowing) before he used it to kill the White Walker. Of course he tells me all this during the show so I'm not surprised when it happens. Ugh!
I'm really bored with Aria's story line.
I'm enjoying seeing Tyrion and Dany bond over the wine, and especially seeing Tyrion advising her-he's one of my favorite characters.
Agree with everyone else about Sansa (not bored with her story line at all) and was really relieved that Theon/Reek told her about her brothers.
Have to admit and agree seeing Cersei in the dungeon was satisfying as hell, especially when thinking back to how she's behaved when Margery's grandmother came to visit her and she sat there "writing" all puffed up with self importance and superiority. Yeah, take that B*tch!
Epeanymous-loved your Titanic quote-I laughed when I read that.

I freakin' love Tyrion. I'm hoping they don't kill him off.
I think Cersei will worm her way out of this one, only to get her comeuppance in a spectacular way later. Just a hunch. I, personally, would like to see Dany kick her arse. A confrontation between the two of them would be awesome.

I'm thinking it will be Jorah, since he's doomed with greyscale. I thought it was a great episode. I think Peter Dinklage plays one of the greatest, most intelligent, most well written characters of any show I've ever seen. DH made the comment that even without being official royalty, Jon Snow would make a great King.

I, too, am bored with Aria's storyline.
Love Dany and T meeting - and loved Cersi's prison scenes, esp when she was asking for people and he tells her they know but won't come.
I'm glad Sansa knows her brothers are still alive, we haven't seen them at all this season, correct? and won't?
Loved the WW battle. It was like World War Z meets GOT! OMG when that guy raised his arms at first I thought he was going to freeze the sea and they could cross. This was even worse/better!

I'm thinking Jorah will infect someone even more important with grayscale. Like Daenarys... Or Tyrion. Being Norwegian, it is a lot of fun seeing Scandinavian actors on GoT Kristoffer Hivju, that red-bearded-Wildling-hunk-of-a-man, is fantastic as Tormund Giantsbane, and I hope he stays in the show for a long time. Then again, this IS Game Of Thrones, and ANYONE can die at any time Also the Danish actress playing the feisty Wildling-mother was good! I would have loved to see her in more episodes. Cersei; two words; KARMA BITCH! There is no way the Lannisters will control King's Landing for much longer. Tyrion and Jamie are far off, Tywin is dead, Joffrey is dead, Cersei is losing it and Tommen doesn't have the backbone to actually rule Westeros. I am going to take a stab in the dark and say that the end of this season will se Deanarys make the decision to go to King's Landing, with Tyrion. There is not enough time this season for her to go, but maybe that's what she'll be up to next season. And you know SOMEONE important is going to die.... I hope to everything holy one of the people who dies is that awful new husband of Sansa's. Preferrably killed by Sansa... And a Lannister-twin, either Cersei or Jamie.

And a Lannister-twin, either Cersei or Jamie. I actually hope Jamie makes it. Being far away I think he will miss the big showdown and he could actually redeem himself. I hope it is Cersei. I'd also love for Theon to avenge Sansa, maybe push her husband out of the tower and he goes down with him. I am starting to read the books again, so I'd like to know (without spoiling the books LOL) - are the books and the show pretty well aligned? Or have they started to Diverge? I'm finding that while I can keep the people straight on the show and I could keep them straight in book 1 (when life was simpler ), keeping the names straight in the books now is hard for me. I google who is a character and see their face and it clicks, but I think not reading their names has messed me up.

My Dad (who introduced me to GOT) said that there are supposed to be 7 books but only 5 written so far. HBO wants to continue on so they are supposedly going to start on their own (which will obviously not ultimately match the books and I imagine is pissing off the author )

Maybe I shouldn't have replied. I just saw what HBO did with True Blood and I think that they want to keep a series going the way they want it and maybe he doesn't have to collaborate.... I agree the guy is old. I hope he at least made some good outlines.....

I heard Mr Martin has it all figured out in his head. And the only two people he has told the ending to is the creators of the tv-show. This fifth season is the first to stray from the books. The tv-show has already been approved for a 6th and 7th season. So I am assuming we will see this through to the end. Well, the end Mr Martin envisions at least Mr Martin is heavily involved with the tv-show, so even though this fifth season strays from the fifth book, he is definitly approving how the show does things. Or does NOT approve. On a side note, I read somewhere on the internet that Mr Martin sometimes reads fan-forums about his bookseries. A lot of fans are discussing the possible endings to the story. And Mr Martin said that he has found one or two people who figured it out But that's probably one or two people out of thousands of theories about who ends up on the Iron Throne!
