but it's review week, finals are next week and she missed yesterday and is a struggling freshman student who needs every bit of review and doesn't need to have to deal with make up work when school gets in out just over a week. I kept her home yesterday and stayed home with her and her blood sugar was high (type 1 diabetic). Today her blood sugar is fine. I have to go to to work. She can stay home by herself but missing class and review again makes me nervous.
Ugh. I've had two teacher friends/relatives say not to worry about the germ spreading as at this point kids come no matter what, but I do. But mostly I worry that she won't get anything out of it or her coughing will be so bad they will send her to the office and I'll have to leave work to get her. I also wonder if she needs to see the doctor. But I've taken her for similar coughs over the years and they say it's just a cold.

Do not send her. Do you really want to make some other kid sick just in time for finals? Have her ask friends to take notes or have the teacher send a review by email. She will be more comfortable studying at home anyway.

No fever? Old enough to cover her mouth when she coughs and wash her hands often? Can she take a coigh suppressant? Can she carry a water bottle or use cough drops? Can she go and leave if needed? If it is the same cold going around here it will have a cough that lingers for weeks.

What does she want to do? Now that she is in high school, it is okay to at least ask, even if you decide to override her. Will she be able to study what she needs to at home?
If she really wants to stay home, I'd let her with the recommendation that she spend at least 30 focused minutes on each subject she has a final in and that she takes a nap.

Call the doctor for some cough syrup with codeine. It will make her dowdy but at least her cough will be under control and she can get her reviews in

I'd keep her home and get somebody's notes. It's not fair to the other kids to expose them and possibly make them sick for their finals.

So hard my DD has been up all night in the bathroom. It's bad and there is no way she can go to school. But she has to present her video she made for a class today. She needs to be there but there is no way its happening. I will have her email it to the teacher the finished video. Jen

Sick Day! It's just review... she can do that on her own at home. Not worth infecting the entire class just for review.

I agree with keeping her home and asking to borrow someone else's notes, or asking someone to review with your daughter in a couple days when she feels a bit better. If she's a coughing, hacking mess, she isn't going to retain anything, and she's going to be a distraction to everyone else.
I also think calling your daughter for some prescription cough medicine is a good idea.

Keep her home. I have a junior and they aren't doing anything in school right now. Review days are usually bs days.

I think you should keep her home. What benefit would there be to exposing her classmates to this virus?
My son is in his finals week, also. Sunday he leaves for a week of camp in Florida. I'd be angry if he got sick because someone sent their child to school sick and he got it.

She should stay home, review her class notes, assignments, textbook, etc., and get the reciew day's notes from a classmate. Your daughter could end up making someone else miss their finals.

1. It's not just a matter of school being over soon for everyone, so it 'doesn't matter so much' if other kids get sick. People go on vacation when school gets out. Teachers have other jobs to go to. Everyone has families that don't need the spread of germs screwing up their summer plans.
2. Her coughing won't just disrupt her...it will disrupt everyone else. That's not fair. If you can't get her a cough suppresant for review time- please keep her home.

My kids are in this age range, and I let them decide. No fever? No puking? Then going is an option. I don't stay home from work for every cough, and they almost always choose to go to school.

It's hard to be a mom sometimes but please don't send her if her cough is that bad.

There were a few minutes at the beginning of each class when kids could ask questions but other than that we were doing labs. The kids were active and involved all the way up to the same day. I hate review. The kids that really needed It didn't pay attention. The kids that paid attention didn't really need it.

I don't understand how some teachers are "doing nothing" at the end of the school year. Even my AP Chem kids who had their exam on May 4th were doing something right up until the end of school. I work myself until I am sick every May trying to fit everything in and yet parents think we are "doing nothing" because some slack teacher has set a precedent. It really ticks me off!!
If your child is not running a fever I would send her on to school. Getting someone's notes is not the same as getting the info first hand. Her friend may not ask the questions that your child needs for clarification.
I hope your child feels better soon.

She has had a couple of tests in her honors classes but nothing that counted. She is a senior, graduating one Friday and these last 2 weeks were a waste of time.

Well I did send her to school which I guess many here disagree with. In hindsight I shouldn't have just because of how badly she felt. No fever though. Took her to the doctor yesterday afternoon and it turns out she has a upper respiratory infection and that aggravated her normally extremely mild exercise induced asthma. So she got some breathing treatments there and we were sent home with a nebulizer, albuterol, advair and z-pak. She's home today and coughing much less but exhausted still. Hopefully she will be feeling well enough to go tomorrow.
I worry because she has anxiety, ADHD/mild learning issues and school is a huge struggle for her. Missing days causes her anxiety and she struggles with the organization to get assignments caught up, turned in etc, even though she has an IEP and is in co-taught classes. They do extensive review in class (esp algebra which is her worst subject), work on review sheets etc and now she is behind. Hopefully she can get what she needs tomorrow and Friday. I know her teachers will do what they can but they have so much going on that I know she needs to be on top of it herself. And that's what I worry about. Plus I have to go out of town for work tomorrow night which I don't normally do and with all this I am super stressed out about it.
