from high school, who planned to travel extensively after graduation, would you appreciate this as a graduation gift?
tumi
My nephew will be traveling to Central America and then possibly to France right after graduation. What do you think?

Cool bag but I would want to pick out my own bag. I would give cash for him to use while travelling in lieu of the bag.

No. I doubt any of my grandsons would be caught dead using it. It's too much like a purse. Sorry.

I decided to give my nephew who is graduating money.
I think the bag you linked is kind of cool but I don't think my nephew would use a cross-body bag.

Probably not. Unless he already is a small bag carrier. My guys prefer an underclothing bag for small infrequently needed items. Otherwise things are carried in their pockets, briefcase or a full sized messenger bag.

I have an 18 year old son graduating. I'm sorry, but he would never use that. It looks a bit like the purse that I used when traveling. When we traveled through Europe, he had a small backpack that he used during the day. It was small enough to tuck into his bag when traveling, and big enough to use for local sight seeing. The back pack straps meant he had his hands free, and in museums he just switched the backpack so that the pack was in the front.

I think it's a good idea but, I would give him the cash to get his own. And FWIW, none of the guys I know would use a cross-body bag.

I think bags are a very personal thing. I think most boys/men would find that bag a bit feminine and I think it would be best for him to choose his own. Lovely thought but you don't want to spend the money only to have it put in the back of the cupboard.

Mom of two boys here (one graduated last year, one will graduate next year.) I don't think either of my boys or their friends would use something like that. They haul around backpacks all the time to cart around more than school stuff, but I couldn't see them using a cross body bag.
Personally, I would probably go with money. Not nearly as exciting, but it was they all want.

I would give the money hiding belt with cash in it and not say anything. See how long it takes to find. But my nephew is a skootch and always doing stuff like that so he wouldn't be sore.
I'd get a text whenever he found the cash with a thanx and good one aunt hop

Cool bag but I would want to pick out my own bag. I would give cash for him to use while travelling in lieu of the bag. i would write a check and enclose a printout of this bag if I thought it was something he might like. That way he can decide on his own if he thinks this would be a useful bag... or choose something entirely different.

It's an expensive gift. If you're right, it's nice. If not, well, it's a big waste. Maybe you can give a GC to a bag store?

My 17-year-old would give me the "what the hell were you thinking" look if I gave him that bag. My gay friends would adore it but consider it entirely too small to be useful as a traveling bag. I think you are safer with a cash gift so that he can pick out a backpack of his own OR just use the money on the trip itself.

I have been shopping for a new travel bag and it is an intensely personal decision. I have checked out and dicarded so many ideas. IN addition, boys traveling with friends (I am assuming he is not going alone??) tend to be a little careless in respect to their safety. Just looking at the picture, I see someone who looks like a target... but that may be because I know kids who have been mugged! in Europe. Money... a nice journal book for his trip (if he is a writer), maybe a gift certificate to enable his phone or to get a european burner.

It really is quite small -- so not very functional for travel.

My boys carried backpacks when we traveled. I would get him a neck wallet to carry his passport and cash in when he travels. It goes under your clothes. We had to have our passports on us at all times when we were in France. Not sure if you still do though. There were lots of pick pockets around Notre Dame. Whatever he carries should deter the pick pocketers.

I have to agree. Bags are such a personal thing... especially for travelling. I'd help fund his trip rather than buying him a bag.

I have an almost 18 year old DS and while I know it's nice to try and choose something special, I would stick to cash or Amazon gift card so he can get something that he likes.
