I am not sure what kind of fabric to use. I do not think it will be used that much, it will be in our master bedroom. How heavy of fabric should I use? Also, how hard is it too keep a pattern straight when recovering it? Would I do better with an all over pattern? Thanks!

If it's heavily padded/very squishy then you need to use a heavier upholstery weight fabric. The type of thing you would find on a couch. If it's lightly padded and not likely to see a lot of use, just look for something tightly woven and at least as heavy as your favorite pair if jeans.
I would stick with an all over pattern if this your first try at upholstery. :-)

thanks, that helps! I saw a pretty design in a duck fabric, but it was a linear pattern, and I thought probably not.
