Hi, this weekend is the last summer Cub Scout Pack camp out that my sons and I can go on. He'll be crossing over to Boys Scouts in February. So, I need your help in knowing what we should do It is about an hour from home but there should be rain on both days. Then in 4 days we leave for a 4 day Scout camp out. It would be nice to do a quick close camp out and get the gear needed together for the next camp out. But on the other hand the possibility of coming home with wet muddy gear is a pain in the but. I am also concerned that this will be a lot of energy spent on behalf getting everything together. So please help me make up my mind!

For a scout, there is no bad weather. Only bad gear and bad planning!
If you want to have a last campout, do it. It seems like those camp outs with rain, snow, cold, hot, etc are the ones the kids talk about the most. But yes, it will be time consuming with the packing, unpacking, cleaning, repacking, etc. Or maybe you could just pick one camp out?

I answered yes because my son would totally do it. I just want to make it clear, however that I wouldn't be going on one campout, let alone two! If you decide to go, have a great time!

I voted no, because you will be on a four day camp out and the idea of coming home wet and muddy just doesn't sound appealing to me.

I would send my kid, but no, I would not be going. My idea of camping is a three star hotel.

Life is short enough. Grab all the experiences with your kids that you can. Who knows what will come up and interfere with the 4 day one. Just go - no regrets.

Veteran scout mom here: go on both camp outs. If the gear is wet and muddy, sometimes I do laundry at laundry mat and get it all done versus doing one load at a time at home. If gear is wet I hang it up to dry in our basement if it is still raining outside.
After the gear is cleaned up and dry, repack everything and stage it near the door or out in the garage.
Oh and your son should do the majority of cleaning, drying, and repacking. A scout packs his own gear, but a mom can check for the first few times. After that he's on his own.
