Are low heels bad too? I'd look for a low heeled silver sandal maybe like these... silver sandal

Personally, I think the shoes are too bulky and chunky for a flowy dress like that. I would choose something strappier.
ETA: I was thinking something like this.... shoes

I also think you need something strappier.
But can we back up a little? What's a circus arts school?

No... those shoes are way too casual for that dress.

The one's you've linked are way too clunky, dark, and heavy for that dress. The silver strappy sandals that stingfan linked are much better.

I agree that the dress calls for a strappy shoe. I do like the one atj linked.

No... those shoes are way too casual for that dress. I agree. And with a black dress you should wear a fun colored shoe. How about these shoes in gold or red.

I don't like those black shoes with it. I love the ones atj linked. they are dressy and have a short heel.

Sorry, but no to the shoes you posted. The dress is very pretty, but would not work well with the black chunky shoe. If you need a shorter heel, consider something like the pair atj posted.

I like the first shoes...I have wide feet and there is no way I would wear high dressy heels. frankly, even with formal wear, I wear black clarks sandals (three straps across) or some black ballet flats I found on zappos. I refuse not to be comfortable. and on a ship, you can easily misstep...so go for comfort. www.zappos.com/softwalk-napa-black-soft-dull-leather-patent-man-made

I don't wear high heels generally and I also have wide feet for my foot size. (Small feet, probably normal width but they make smaller sizes in narrower widths most of the time). I also have a very similar dress in a darker maroon color. I wear shoes that look like these sandals but mine are more of a pinky pewter color.

Delicate fabric, like lace, means you need a delicate shoe, too. You can do any color with black, so have fun. Find a cute, strappy pair that you like and pick your favorite color!

Keep in mind, you do a lot of walking back and forth, and up and down stairs. I would definitely go with a flat or very low heel. Something with some sparkle maybe, or maybe something satin-y? ETA: I had a pair similar I found at Ross. My dress was black and purple, and I had similar beading going around the waist (like a faux belt). shoes

NO flats, or chunky shoes. I'd go with a scrappy kitten heal like a couple posted above.

I like the pair stingfan linked and would also consider something like this or this (slight platform, so only 2 1/2" heel). DD wore something with straps similar to atj's link and had serious trouble all night with her pinky toes getting caught in the first strap so they went in the donate pile the next day.

Thanks for all the great advice and responses. With the wide sizes there aren't a lot of color options, it's pretty much black or silver. I would love a teal or red. How about this?or similarly this?or this?

I say wear whats comfy. And while in seated at a formal dinner on a cruise or in the theater watching the show no one is looking at my feet.
That said, I prefer a classic black pump with a 3 to 4 inch heel to wear with black formal dresses.

I agree, you need something lighter and strapped. I don't know if you are thrift shopper but you can get shoes very cheaply that have hardly been worn at thrift stores

If you want something that you will be able to wear often, I would go with a classic black pump. Something like this, which is also reasonably priced. linkI really like this one, but the heel is high: link

If you're looking for something a bit more comfortable, I like the first ones posted by Tamhugh. They're graceful and not clunky at all. The strappy styles you linked are cute, but would kill my feet.

If it is for a one night deal, I would run by some place like payless and plunder through to see if there is something you like and fits (they have wide widths.) I have picked up a couple of pairs of 'single use' shoes there for incredibly reasonable prices and they are fairly comfortable.
Now you know what to look for, I bet you will find something that will work.
