Jimney Crickets I forgot how much fun cortizone shots are! 'Angry shoulder.' makin my eyes water! Nasty Rotator Cuff tendonitis. Go back to Ortho 1st of July if they don't help I'll go for CT. Orthopedic doc said there may be a small bone spur but we can check it in July when we do the follow up. I have a trip at end of the month I can't miss. He gave me some pain meds to hold me over. He also said the PT might flamed it but that he knows that the insurance sometimes makes you do that before they go to other treatments. Have you had success with shots? It didn't help with my knee but it was shredded so that wasn't much help there. I'm just going one step at a time one body part at a time I guess putting myself back together

I just had a cortisone shot in my foot last week. Yowza, that felt like my foot was going to explode. I'm still having some swelling, but not as bad.

Well, it has brought the swelling down considerably. The underlying problem is still bugging me, and there is still some mild swelling. Acupuncture took away most of the pain, but I'm still having serious nerve twinges. I'm hoping I still just need to give it time. He did say it would take at least a week. But that was a week ago, so... I hope it helps you!

I have had one for my knee that has very little cartridge left in it and is in constant pain/swollen. I didn't think the shot hurt much, and I felt some immediate relief...like the joint was a little more lubricated.
That was a few months ago, and I think I am due for another one. I will probably have them every 3 months until I finally get my knee replacement. :-( They are the only thing that have given me some relief.
Sorry you are in pain. I hope you find some relief! Erin

I have had them in the knees and they were very helpful. I have had them in the heel and not only did they hurt a lot more but they didn't help at all.

I used to get them in my foot. They would help some, but I was only prolonging a surgery, so they weren't a magical shot or anything. I've since had surgery and haven't needed them (yet)

I had the shot in my shoulder a year and a half ago and it worked. MRI showed Rotator cuff, bursitis and lots of scar tissue. It had been bothering me for years. PT didn't help, surgery was the suggested route, but I opted to try the shot first. Haven't had it bother me since. Hope it works for you too.

I had a shot last year for my shoulder and it was the best thing ever. They could never really figure out what was wrong with mine. At first they thought frozen shoulder, but then they said tendonitis. It was so painful. They sent me for X-rays, mri, made me do a month of physical therapy. The physical therapy was a joke. It did nothing for me. My doc finally referred me to an orthopedic doc and she actually prescribed 3 shots for me over 3 months. I only ended up needing two. The shot was a little uncomfortable when she did it, but not near as bad as some were leading me to believe.

I just had one in my shoulder about 10 days ago... And NOTHING! No relief at all. The shot itself wasn't as bad as I had anticipated but my whole upper arm ached badly for a day or so afterwards. I was really hoping it would allow me to do up my bra pain free! LOL. But no luck. I guess it's back to the Doc next week... sigh. I hope you get some relief!

I had one in the inside part of my wrist this week for carpal tunnel. I need the surgery but didn't want to do it in the summer. So far so good and the pain wasn't too bad. Going in I didn't feel much.
But I have had one in my foot and that brought tears to my eyes and the following days, I felt like a brick had been dropped on my foot.

I was diagnosed with a right shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis injury on April 9th. I got my first cortizone shot in my right shoulder on that day. Hurt like hell going in and made my right shoulder very sore (more sore than it was) for the next two days, but after that for the next two weeks it felt much better. Like a fool totally forgetting, I picked up a bag of groceries with my right hand (it's so hard when you're right handed), and re-injured my shoulder. So, I went back to see my doctor who gave me a second shot of cortizone and said if I didn't feel much better in a few days to go for an MRI.
Just went for the MRI a couple of days ago. They are trying to see if it's a torn rotator cuff instead of just tendinitis. If it is supposedly home physical therapy (just a few exercises) can heal the injury. But I have to stop using it completely. So far I haven't been able to do that. I think it's going to come down to me putting that arm in a sling and leaving it there as a reminder. And just stop doing anything with it at all and giving it a proper chance to heal-sure would be worth it to avoid surgery
So the answer to your question is yes-the corizone shots do work. They work really well, but they wear off after a couple of weeks and if the injury hasn't healed and if you keep re-injuring it, it will still hurt like hell-like mine does right now-I had to drive my stick shift car yesterday. Thanks goodness I don't have to do that everyday.

My mother gets 4 shots in her neck and lower back every 3 months from her rheumatologist. She says they hurt for the first day or so then she gets relief.
