That is seriously sick.
I almost think her reaction is worse than the boy's actions.
In what world would that be funny???

Like some others have said - my first thought was a Criminal Minds episode. And what's even more disturbing than a 10 year old who apparently doesn't know better, are the parents who think it's so funny. I hope that poor rabbit is the only pet they have.
What the hell does that mean? Take it to the vet - or 'fix it' as in kill it.

Jeffery Dahlmer tortured small animals, too. I find that sick. I don't get some people.

I don't see anything funny in it at all.

It was definitely not a tension or a nervous laugh. It was an honest to goodness funny laugh. It's been 4 hours and I'm still sickened. That poor, poor bunny. I feel really sorry for the boy too. Either he is not being raised with much moral or ethical guidance, or he has some mental health problems. Given that his mother apparently thinks his behaviour was funny, I suspect the former,;but either way, I feel sorry for him, and his future.

That's frightening. For a 10 yr old to do something like that? That's a Criminal Minds episode waiting to happen. My first thought exactly. Even my three year old knows we pet kitty "softy, softy." What ten year old would throw a bunny like that?

Appalling that a ten-year-old would do that and even more appalling that apparently more than one adult found it funny (your co-leader and the person telling her the story over the phone).

That is truly disgusting, animal cruelty is never a laughing matter. When you say the husband was going 'to fix' the rabbit, didn't they even take the poor thing to the vet? I am beyond horrified that she thought this was funny I would definitely call the RSPCA or whatever your version is.

Oh no. That's not on. That is bloody disgusting! Good thing it wasn't me there. There would have been a call to report animal cruelty before they knew what hit them. Then the rabbit would have been taken to the vet and major words said. Fricken psychopaths. It disturbs me that his father was going to 'fix it' ?!!!! There's not many things that really piss me off, but that's one of them. Like others I won't be able to get this image out of my head for some time.

Wow, that's just so wrong. That a 10yo would throw a bunny in the air- he *knew* that bunny wouldn't fly unless he's mentally delayed so he did it just to be cruel and then your co-leader laughing hysterically about it. It's really sickening.

that is just abhorrent. I'm actually kinda sorry I read this post, because I won't be able to get that image out of my head for quite a while... This is how I feel, too...an announcement in the title that animal cruelty is mentioned would be nice so people can skip over it if they choose to. And to the point-a 10 year old behaving this way is very, very disturbing, but the adult's reaction was almost more so.

That's despicable. A 10 yr old should know better, and I'd suggest he has some latent issues that need addressing asap. His parents have no souls. And the whole family should be reported for animal cruelty. As for your co-leader, I wouldn't have been able to help myself. A few choice words would have been thrown her way regarding her sadistic sense of humor. That poor defenseless bunny. Breaks my heart

Umm, you have enough information to call and report it - why do you think you need to know the son's name?
You call, report what you know, they investigate - speak to her, can get her phone records if necessary, and determine what happened, etc...
I don't get why you wouldn't at least call to ask if you have enough info to make a report if you weren't sure... You know that an animal was abused and is seriously injured... Call...

sI was thinking maybe a tension laugh too. You clarified that it was not and based on all of this, I would be horrified. I know incidents/accidents happen but that doesn't mean laughter is ever appropriate. dang, I would not have shared that info with anyone as I would have been horrified by what happened. Where is the "check" in those sorts of people. I agree to the poor, poor bunny comment.

No, not funny. And the look of total horror on my face during the retelling would have made it quite clear that I didn't find it remotely humorous.

Omgosh. That actually makes me sick to read. And for another adult to laugh? Yea I would have called her ass out on it and then proceeded to call an animal cruelty line right in front of her. Idiots.

WTH is wrong with her? This isn't funny.
I hope they don't have anymore pets at home. Of course, from her reaction, she probably finds his behavior endearing and boys will be boys. I wonder how many other animals have been harmed and 'fixed.'
