It's the Queen's Birthday long weekend here this weekend (which is a bit odd considering that her birthday is actually in April!). But I'm not complaining, we get 3 days off work, yippee!
I'm just wondering whether you get a public holiday for the Queen's Birthday as well?
And what will happen when Prince Charles becomes King?

Canada doesn't get anything for this queen's birthday, but we get a long weekend in May in honour of Queen Victoria.

We have Victoria Day in Canada, better known here as the May two four weekend. ( a two four or 2-4, is a phrase used for a case of beer which has 24 bottles)

Over here a case of beer is known as a "slab" ! Is Victoria Day known as "two four weekend" because everyone gets drunk?

Nope, no Holiday here.
This is the monarch's Official Birthday, so it will continue when Charlie inherits.

In Australia even though the day is called Queen's Birthday, it really has nothing to do with the current Queen Elizabeth or her actual birthday (except that they changed the name to "Queen" rather than "Monarch": So When Charles when (if) Charles becomes King, it could revert back to being called the King's Birthday holiday or Monarch's birthday but I don't think most Aussies care what it's called as long as they continue to get a day off...they may just continue to call it the Queen's Birthday after all this time.

I had to look it up, I knew there was an official Birthday but not the reason, my UK diary has June 1st this year as the Queen's Birthday - no public holiday. But the Trooping of the Colour will be on the 13th June.
Wiki It has been celebrated in the United Kingdom since 1748. There, the Queen's Official Birthday is now celebrated on the first, second, or third Saturday in June, although it is rarely the third. Edward VII, who reigned from 1901 to 1910, and whose birthday was on 9 November, in autumn, after 1908 moved the ceremony to summer in the hope of good weather. In 2013, it was celebrated on 15 June and was on 14 June in 2014. The next will be on 13 June 2015.
The day is marked in London by the ceremony of Trooping the Colour, which is also known as the Queen's Birthday Parade. The list of Birthday Honours is also announced at the time of the Official Birthday celebrations. In British diplomatic missions, the day is treated as the National Day of the United Kingdom. Although it is not celebrated as a specific public holiday in the UK (as it is not a working day), some civil servants are given a "privilege day" at this time of year, which is often merged with the Spring Bank Holiday (last Monday in May) to create a long weekend, which was partly created to celebrate the monarch's birthday.[citation needed

We had Monday last week off for Queen's Birthday. Personally, I like the Queen, but I think it's time for New Zealand to become a republic after she dies. It's time to cut ties with Mother England. I get to stand in the International line if I ever go there, so clearly, they don't think of me as one of their own.

Queen Elizabeth II has been the queen for so long that surely there is a wide range of practices that need reviewing when they get a new monarch? Queen's Birthday (or King's birthday) would probably be one of them. The new monarch might change a few things around, who knows. But I have great respect for QEII, she has been the epitome of a graceful and devoted queen for over half a century. Whoever takes over the reigns (pun intended) has got some massive shoes to fill! When I lived in Australia, people used to joke about her birthday. She celebrates her birthday 10 times a year or so if you count all the different countries celebrating on different dates

Nope, the new monarch won't be changing anything around in Australia at all. They have no say in the day to day running of our country. Our public holidays are decided by the State and Federal Governments and they have a set number they can assign per year. As The current date of "Queen's" Birthday has been in place for the last 79 years so far, there is absolutely no way that a new monarch could change that. Each individual State Government *could* change it...but apart from potentially renaming it, I highly doubt they would. Too may things are set up around the known public holidays and after this amount of time changing it would be quite problematic.
Plus as already pointed out this is NOT a celebration of the current Queen Elizabeth's birthday, we haven't changed the date since King George V for almost 80 years, so why would they alter it when the current monarchy changes?

Not that I live there anymore... but in Cayman they celebrate the Queen's Birthday with a day off.. it is celebrated on the 15th of June...
Cayman is a British protectorate. We always thought it odd that it was a holiday there but not in the UK.

I never heard the term "two four" until I came to Ontario. It was always known as the Victoria Day long weekend or the May long weekend. It really bothers me that it's been reduced to get stupid drunk instead of it's actual intent. I actually refuse to call it the "two four" and I've been mocked for that. Don't care though. I think it sounds stupid. Sorry. Rant kind of morning.

Queen's Birthday (or King's birthday) would probably be one of them. The new monarch might change a few things around, who knows. Most if not all practices that involves the Monarch in the UK are historical and part of out heritage. As far as any changes are concerned it's only Parliament that can make those changes if any are needed. And no we don't get a day off/holiday for the Queen's birthday in the UK but Government employee do have an extra day's entitlement to their normal quota of public holidays.

Not that they necessarily 'need' reviewing, but after QEII has been doing things HER way for decades, maybe the new monarch will look at what he wants to do the same as QEII, or change it to a way he might deem a better way of doing it. The celebration of the monarch's birthday might be one of these things that could be changed. Maybe the new monarch wants to keep QEII's birthday, maybe he'll only celebrate his own birthday on his actual birthday and not on several days. When he becomes the monarch after QEII I am sure there are things he will want to adjust or tweak if he sees it fit. Don't ALL monarchs do that?

I doubt very much that any future Monarch would want to change the Trooping of the Colour ceremony that marks the Queen's ( as she is at the moment the reigning Monarch) official birthday in the UK. It's been ongoing in this form since the 18th century irrespective of any Monarch's actual birthday. It's always on a Saturday in June, usually the first or second. Other Commonwealth countries have their own official days that they have chosen to officially mark the Monarch's birthday which would be convenient for each individual country.

I really don't know.....we haven't had a new monarch for nearly 63 years so it's not something I know much about. We may see a few changes but I don't think this will be one of them, as dottyscrapper said.
