I'm looking at some Danskos on Ebay; worn, but barely. I can't decide if I'm ok with previously enjoyed shoes. They look like they are in great shape and the price is really good. Thoughts?

I've bought two pair of used danskos on ebay. For $20 or less, they were a steal! I have a family owned shoe shop in my town that is an authorized dansko repair center and then cleaned and sanitized them for me, maybe that's an option for you?

I'd get them and clean the insides with rubbing alcohol if I was afraid of any bacteria.

Used shoes ick me out. I didn't even like when I was a teen and my sister would wear my shoes.

I don't know...the cleanliness factor I could get over with a good cleaning, but what I love about my danskos is that the sort of mold to fit my feet...

For me it isn't an ick factor but the fact, even with a small amount of wear, shoes do mold to the shape of a foot and the roll of their gait so they can end up impacting my feet/legs if I"ll be wearing them to do a lot of standing...
So, dress shoes I'll mostly sit while wearing, ok. But a work shoe that I'll be on my feet in for hours at a time, no.

I borrowed a friend's running shoes in gr. 1 and I got a wart on my foot after that. Never again!

I had a pair of Danskos that I loved that I could not wear after I had my knee replaced. The new knee changed my gait and the shoes I had that were the kind that molded to my feet before the surgery did not fit the same way after. Strange - not a side effect I expected. So I would not be buying used shoes if I can't even wear ones that I had used!

No way in hell. My feet sweat a lot so just thinking about someone else's foot funk and then putting my foot in there.... ::::shudder:::. Just no. Please I agree with the molding comment. It doesn't seem like a healthy thing to do.

Yes and I have. I didn't want to pay full price to try Danskos. I had heard how comfortable they are, but they just looked so heavy and clunky. I found a pair that was used for $30 or $40 (it's been awhile so I can't remember exactly). I wore them and they were so comfy. I still have them and have purchased two pairs since. I wear socks with mine, so I think that was one reason I was ok with it.

I have but it depends how much they have been previously worn. I would assume that a pair that have been barely worn or in like new condition have not been worn enough to mold to a persons foot yet.

No, as other posters above shoes mold to your feet and everyone's feet are different.

I would, for something that isn't all-day type wear. The cleanliness can be dealt with but the moulding/shaping might not work if they've been worn very much.

I buy and wear used shoes all the time. The ones I buy always look as though they have never been worn, no dirt or impressions on the inside, often no wear on the sole. I wouldn't buy something that seemed to have been well worn, even if it was still in good condition. I have found that with footwear, it seems that either people like their shoes and wear them often, or they try them once and don't find them comfortable and get rid of them. Sometimes they buy them on line and the size was wrong and they can't return them or return shipping is cost prohibitive. Or they lose the receipt, got them as a gift and just don't like them, etc. I have never bought shoes on line though, either ebay or retail, because I want to try them on and be sure the fit and feel is good. Not sure what Danskos are, and whether you have tried on an identical pair in the store, or had some previously to be sure the size and style were perfect for you. That would be more of a concern to me than the fact that they are 'used'. As long as they look 'new' I have no issue with buying previously unenjoyed shoes.

If you do, buy the gold Listerine and clean them a few times - we get the real stuff, not generic. Let dry in between cleanings.
I clean used shoes for the homeless and that has worked well for us.

My Mom had this big thing growing up about buying good shoes and no hand me down shoes. According to her they mold to your feet so to speak and everyone's feet/gait is different so shoes are a one person deal. So no, I wouldn't buy used shoes.

I buy used shoes for use in costuming...but for everyday use/wear, I do not. My kids didn't even get hand me down shoes from one another because I believe shoes do mold to feet and no two feet are the same.

I won a pair of Dansko's off eBay a month ago. Good price, barely used, no foot impressions, no problem.
