I am visiting my FIL right now. Yesterday he walked up to me and told me that he likes the way dh and I parent our kids. He said we have wonderful kids and he thinks they are very well behaved. That meant a lot. My MIL passed away in January and whenever we came back to visit them she usually had a critical comment about how we were raising our kids. I just assumed FIL felt the same way. Nice to learn he doesn't.

My sister told me a few years ago that I was doing a good job with my sons. Coming from a very negative, envious person and a family that rarely shows any affection, hearing this meant a lot.

I'm the senior project engineer for a heavy industrial contractor. We are working with the WORST client in my 33 years. Last year I purchased/managed 1500 valves and about $10 million of pipe fabrication. The owner decided this year they are purchasing the valves themselves. They had to bring in two men to handle just the valves.
It was awesome because one of our very young engineers relayed this info to me.
Oh, and all the pipe fabrication they bought is late. Ha!

Well it wasn't recent but I will never forget what my 6th grade teacher wrote in my yearbook. He said he wished he had 30 students like me in his classroom every year. It really meant a lot because I had a huge amount of respect for him and he was my all-time favorite teacher.

A few weeks ago, dh introduced me to one of his clients. (he is a pastoral counselor at church)
She told me, "He sure does love you!". I was a little shocked. Not that he loves me, but because it shows in the stories he tells about me.
I knew he tells them, I think most pastors do give illustrations about their family, but she picked up on something I didn't when listening to him. Fortunately, I recovered enough to thank her for telling me that!
How much better would this world be if everyone looked for ways to compliment someone every day.

One of the teachers I work with has a baby. She told me that she hopes she can be as good a mom as I am when her baby gets as old as my boys. She said she likes how relaxed I am with them and how well they mind. After school some of the staff kids are pretty wild, but I make mine follow the rules of kids only in classrooms and not running the halls.

A mom from my daughter's softball team told me that she thought my daughter was a very humble, level headed kid. I loved that the compliment was about my daughter as a person rather than her ability to hit, pitch, etc.

I received a forwarded email from my director from a mom praising the wonderful job I did in her child's classroom this year. Not only did it made me feel good and appreciated, it was nice my director got it first. And the mom is on the preschool board of directors. Win - win!!

I had a surprise visit from a previous student yesterday. She is graduating and will be going off to college in the fall to become an accountant. She told me that she hated math until my 5th grade class, and that I made her love it. She told me I am the most influential teacher she ever had. That pretty much made my decade.

DH recently told me that he feels very proud whenever he introduces me to his business associates or friends I haven't met. It meant a lot to me. What recent compliment has meant a lot to you? it wasn't meant as a compliment (or a complaint), but I was pleased to hear it...
A student, when talking to other students about me, said "you earn every point you get in Mrs. Smith's class." That's a lesson I want my students to learn so I was proud when I heard it. It was said in comparison to a few other teachers at my school who are known to be "easy" and "cool."
