well thank god I subscribe to different cameo sites in my email. They sent this to my email today but I didn't see it in any of the Silhouette emails from the company.

Why wouldn't you upgrade now? All the glitches in the software seem to have been worked out...

I am going to upgrade.. I know some of my friends want to go back to the old one in stead of the upgrade. I do not know why.

ooh, I don't used mine all that often, and hadn't noticed whether there was a 'software update available' waiting for me or not-- thanks for the info; I will have to check mine out!

I held out for quite awhile, but iowgirl said the bugs had been fixed, so I finally updated a few days back. I hadn't heard about not being able to use the store after June 22. I just finally got around to updating instead of continuing to procrastinate. Sounds like it was good timing.

OK - I am quickly falling OUT of love the Silhouette School Blog. I really feel like she is either not fully understanding things before she posts - or purposely posting misleading headlines to get the click (clicks = $$) on her blog.
First of all - the updates are necessary. There are some security issues that need to be addressed. That is something that happens with all software. You are using your credit card to subscribe - so you really DO want them to keep up on all security issues. Microsoft is also phasing out Internet Explorer. Windows 10 will no longer use IE. The Silhouette Design Store uses IE (even if you don't) to access the store from the software (Safari for Mac users)
The V3 software is relatively bug free. There will probably always be some type of issue with some peoples computers. Some just do not have enough RAM or a good enough processor to run the software optimally.
It is NOT the update from last year that you need, to continue to have access to the Silhouette Design Store - it is the MOST RECENT update that was release a couple days ago. V3.3.632 is the update.
They will also issue a patch and update for those that are still using V2.9. Some people are just not able to use V3, due to computer issues. So it will still be possible to use the older V2 (even though the Silhouette School blog seems to scream that you can't do it anymore. She is wrong and needed to do more research before she posted to her blog about this.

I would wait to do the update for at least a few days. They released it, and it apparently conflicted with an update that Microsoft released at about the same time - so a few people who updated had some problems. They addressed these problems already.
It is a good idea to not update on the weekend. Silhouette is closed -so if you have issues, you can't contact them. I would also not update if you are in the middle of a big project. Finish it, then update.
There will be more updates in August. They are coming out with some nifty new machines and also some great new features in their software, like being able to run it off a tablet or phone and cut wirelessly. SilhouetteMobile will allow you to design and create on your mobile phone or tablet. SilhouetteLink will allow you to send the cut project to your cutter from anywhere.

Thanks for the update and iowgirl for the clarification. I've been using the older version since I had some trouble with the previous update. I know what I'll be doing tonight.

I have been a holdout, but now I that I know it is because of security issues, I will probably go ahead and update. I was happily plugging away using version 2 and just did some downloads from the store recently. I want to still be able to buy images. Smart thinking Iowgirl! I like her idea of never updating on a friday or on a weekend in case you need to call/email support. I would hate to wait over the weekend to get up and running again.

I am not really sure, karenl. You will need to update both machines to the most current V3 if you are downloading files (even the freebies), but if you are just looking at the store from browser (not going through the software) - I am not really sure if you need the update. You can shop the store from a mobile device without even having the Studio software installed. You would not be able to put the files on the non-updated computer though.
The most current update is now at V3.3.638 (06/16/2015). I wish they tested these a little better before releasing them. Seems like people are still having trouble getting the update to work. Many have no trouble, but some are having some issues. Makes me a little nervous. I am still waiting.

We have to update by the 23rd? Is that correct?
I will update, but may just wait until Monday to do it. Give them a few more days to work out some bugs.

Right - you have a few days. Sounds like this most current one is going well for most now though. I would avoid a weekend install though...

Does anyone know if they already have the V.2.9 patch? Or is that still to be released?
I have Silhouette Studio on two computers, one of which I upgraded, but the other Cannot be upgraded to V3.

You should still be able to access the web version of the Silhouette store from your computer. www.silhouetteonlinestore.comThat's how I get the weekly free files. The files just aren't added into my library until I open the Silhouette software on my craft room computer.

Thanks!!!!!! As long I can download the files, it's no big deal. I just wasn't sure if I'd be able to do that.
I wasn't 100% sure from the info about the update if that would still be possible download the shapes purchased through the web.

I haven't heard about the V2 patch yet.
I did update. Went very smooth and took only a few seconds to complete. All is good for me.

I updated to the latest version of the software last night. I downloaded a few designs from the store this morning. I chose a design from my library and altered it a bit, then cut it.
Granted, I didn't do anything amazing, but so far, no glitches that I can see in the software.

I just updated and it was easy. Took me like a total of 5 min. No issues that I can see at this point. I fiddled around with it a little and it seems to be fine. It does look different since I was running an older version.

I know a lot of people are having issues with the new upgrade. I followed the Mac tutorial and I had no issues. I was able to open the upgraded software, see all my file and open files. I haven't cut anything yet but I don't anticipate any problems. Just wanted to share for those worried to upgrade. Mac install: m.youtube.com/watch?v=BpQPJViZM9wWindows install: m.youtube.com/watch?v=KqOfyFvZvNw

Just curious, what issues are people reportedly having with the new update? I have cut a few things since updating, and no problems for me. However, there are plenty of features that I have not needed to use, so I am wondering what problems people are reporting with the new software?

I had never upgraded on my old laptop.
I got a new laptop in April, so I installed software on my new laptop - but it's a Mac - I'm assuming it should be current then since I just loaded it in April? I knw sometimes the whole Windows vs Mac thing sometimes causes issues...hope not!

There are a lot of complaints on the silhouette Facebook page of people saying once they upgrade they can't open the software and some get a corrupt file error.

I wonder if they are trying to use an old icon to open it? If you pin it to your toolbar, you need to re-do that.

I was hoping that the update would stop Silhouette from crashing on my laptop every time I try to close the program. Sadly, it still crashes. The CS rep. suggested that I use a different graphics card. I can't do that on my laptop. I have to use the one I have. I only use the Silhouette program if I really have to. Otherwise, I use SCAL 3, which works a lot better for me.

What do you use for AV, riversong1963 ? Some AV programs are huge resource hogs and if your laptop is a bit underpowered to start with - having a bloated AV will really bring the Studio program to a crawl. Norton and McAfee are the worst, IMO.
