UPDATE: We got back last night after spending 3 days in Breckenridge (2 travel days). The driving wasn't bad (no major delays), the weather was perfect (70s the whole time!!), the scenery gorgeous, the lodge beautiful, the activities fun and it was great to see family we haven't seen for awhile. Out of 45 members of the family, 39 were there. We came from Colorado; Washington, D.C.; Utah; Idaho; Texas; Pennsylvania and Georgia. Driving on I-70 with the Colorado River right next to us was fun--we saw a few groups of rafters.
Thanks to those who advised us on travel!

Hi all!
My family will be going to Breckenridge, Colorado for a family reunion. We live in Utah. Google Maps says that the best route is US-6 through Utah, then I-70 through Colorado. It also says that the trip will be just under 7 hours. I am assuming that is normal travel time without construction.
I see there are several construction zones. Colorado peas, how bad are the construction delays? We do have two other options, one of which is through Wyoming and will take just over 8 hours. Would it be worth it to take the Wyoming route to avoid construction delays?
thanks, Merilee

The only construction I've dealt with in the mountains lately (that would affect your travel to Breck) is around Glenwood, and those delays weren't much. Not enough to make me choose a different travel route. The longer delays were on the other side of the tunnels.

We went through Glenwood Canyon this weekend. There was a short stretch that was one lane, no problem at all. If you haven't been through the canyon before, time your trip to go though during daylight... absolutely gorgeous area.
