Ok fellow RefuPeas...I am struggling post-crop weekend to put away all the papers, scraps, embellishments and tools I had eagerly and easily packed for my latest retreat. It's dis-motivating me in my quest to continue working on my layouts at home. I know I should put on my music and just do it but...but...but *sigh* I have a system I use to pack which resembles the system I use to assemble a page, but not so much when it's time to clean up.
Which do you find easiest to do, pack or unpack? (And for those who only scrap at home, take out stuff for a project or clean up afterwards?) What's everyone's "system"?

Unpacking is hands down faster .. an hour to pack & 10 minutes to unpack..

unpacking is easier when going to crops, but putting away everything after scrapping at home is harder. LOL

I find putting away to be easier. When I'm pulling out supplies for a project I feel I need to look at all my options to find the best matches and I always pull out way more than I know I'll use so I have plenty of choice. When it comes time to clean up I just open my embellishment drawers and toss the leftover pieces back in where they belong.

I have a pretty good system on where things belong. Just don't ask me the length of time it takes from finished project to actual clean up.

When it comes time to clean up I just open my embellishment drawers and toss the leftover pieces back in where they belong. This is me as well. I take a long time to pack for a crop and end up taking way more than I end up using. That's why I go to crops so rarely - only once or twice per year. The rest of the time I scrap at home where I can leave everything out. Packing for crops is my least favorite part of this hobby. I can unpack & put things away when I get home from a crop pretty fast because my stuff is usually fairly organized. But if I'm trying to unpack from a crop at a time when I've either just finished a project, or just done a lot of shopping - then I spend a longer time unpacking because I'll be re-organizing as I go...and probably getting things ready for the next project (in theory at least, LOL)!

Because I struggle with both I'm trying to have some duplicate tools that I can keep packed. This has helped a bit

Interesting! The majority of you find the unpacking easier.... Maybe I need to re-look at my organization and storage and why putting things away is such a drag for me. Maybe it's because I have everything I need in one compact space (two rolling totes) and the thought of separating that seems counter-intuitive...hmm. I don't know, but I guess it's time for music and a little motivation! Thanks for everyone's comments!

I think it's more hectic for me to pack for a crop. I don't want to forget anything but I don't want to bring too much. I fly to crops so I have to worry about suitcase weight, etc. When I come home, I just don't want to deal but push through it since it really doesn't take that much time. (Kind of like putting the laundry away..the hard part is over but I just don't want to do it. ha!)

That's a tough one. Packing takes me longer (even though I have lists . . . and lists of lists), but I find unpacking so tedious and un-fun (I mean, the crop is over, so that totally sucks!) that I guess I would have to say that while I enjoy packing much more, unpacking is technically easier.

By shopping thrift stores, I now have an XXL with basic supplies that is always packed. The pictures and paper that I'm taking for specific projects are packed into another tote. I really like the system. I can now pack quickly at the last minute, if I need to. I don't have to worry about putting everything away.

Since I have a designated room, I have place for everything. I like getting it all back where it goes, so when I scrap at home everything is close. I have an XL and XXL and several shoulder bags to unpack.

I don't go to crops, but I do pack up a lot of tools, dies etc for a class I take every week. I generally find it quicker to unpack, but sometimes I just leave everything in my bag for the following week.

Unpacking is so much easier because there's no decision making. I just put things back in their place. When I'm packing or even just taking things out for scrapping at home I'm hemming and hawing over over everything. Paper, embellishments, color, Cameo, sewing, picture placement, etc. Ugh. It feels like it takes forever at times.

Packing and unpacking really took the joy out of going to crops for me, and I felt so disorganized when I got home.
i have a duplicate set of my basic tools that I leave in a rolling cart. For embellishments that aren't part of a collection -- I took a portion of each of them and leave them in the rolling cart. I leave basic colors of cardstock in my rolling cart. The only thing I specifically pack for crops are paper collections. I keep my paper collections together, so I only have to grab the whole collection and put it away.
For short crops where I'm not going to bring my silhouette, I have borders and a few basic shapes that I cut out of plastic that I can trace and hand cut.

I find packing easier... obviously, since I went to a 3-day crop weekend in MARCH and still haven't unpacked ANY of it-- it's all just sitting in my craft room, and it makes me sad to even think about it. Part of it was the 'let-down' from the fun weekend being over, but now it's just grown into this huge thing that I can't get past, and I need to if I want to craft again at all. I obviously haven't scrapped since then, and it's TOTALLY because I don't want to face having to put everything away. (Maybe I need to sign up for a 12-hour crop at the local SB store-- but even then I would have to unpack my stuff in order to re-pack it to take with to the store.) I'll be looking at this thread for ideas, too- just wanted you to know you're not alone!!

Good question. I'm with Elsabelle- for me the hemming and hawing and decision-making of what to work on and then what to pack for what I want to work on is the worst part of cropping at the LSS every week. Now un-packing? I love that! I have an organized room, so it all just pops right back into where it came from. But I had to create a packing list for crops because there's just. so. much. Even still I sometimes forget several items I just "neeeed" when I'm cropping. The ladies with the duplicate stuff have got it all figured out! Great idea, and I love to hit thrift shops so I may just try to duplicate some items and leave them either at my LSS (she lets us keep stuff there) or in my XXL. Good luck getting it all sorted out OP!

I hate unpacking... I will work out of my tote for as long as I can once I'm home - not because it's easier, but because taking stuff out of my tote, using it, then putting it away feels better... I feel like when I pack I've already made some choices about what I'm going to use... Unpacking means that I'll have to make those choices again... And apparently that's too much work...lol

ooh, penny- that IS a good idea! Use the things in the process of putting it away... I could maybe do that; it might make me feel better about having to put everything away. (and for the people who said they hate deciding what to take with-- I don't like doing that, either, so I end up overpacking and taking as much stuff as possible, even though I know I won't touch over half of it at all. Hence, the problem I have with unpacking!! )

I am unpacked (both suitcase and crops supplies), have laundry going and am sliding pages into new albums by the end of the first hour I am home. I am a little anal about a few facets in my life. Now ask me how often I dust, meh, it happens.

Ok ladies, I did it...unpacked my kits from finished layouts, broke them apart and put them away. Ugh. Not my favorite thing to do, but it's done. I did leave my most used tools, neutral embellishments and paper, plus a small stamping kit, in the rolling totes though and thanks for the suggestion for working out of them, I can do that. Duplicating tools is a great idea too. I appreciate everyone's input, it got me thinking and motivated to push on through! I'm ready to scrap again
