I don't care about either team. But the constant circle jerk by the announcers for Chicago really had me rooting for Tampa. I have to laugh--DH kept saying he was sick of the announcers stroking Tampa Bay, lol. Anyhow, I'm so happy! I friggin' love hockey, and I love the Blackhawks. I never get tired of watching them. Any Chicago fans brave Wrigleyville last night? It was packed!

To all the Blackhawks fans -- you're welcome! ODS begged me to find something else to do during the last two games. Why? Because every time I sit down and watch, the Hawks lose. He can't grow a playoff beard but found his superstition. I tracked the score on FB (and the Cup's issues getting through traffic and our flooded expressways) and went downstairs to a very happy 15 year old when I heard the fireworks start up in the neighborhood. Even with rain, they were going off until well past midnight. Chicago is going to be a fun place to be fro the next few days.

And I have a terrible confession to make: I don't mind Bettman, for two reasons. One, he's doing what the owners want him to do. Two, he's trying to bring the game up in popularity in the US. I love NHL hockey with a missionary/Evangelical zeal. Bettman is doing what he has to do to proselytize to people that they are missing out by not watching the NHL. I can't argue with that. Even though I think it should, I realize NHL hockey won't catch up to the NFL or MLB. I do believe it is attainable to compete with the NBA though... our game is just so much better. If we have to subsidize teams in Florida or Phoenix or wherever until people realize that, so be it! Yeah, I'm not sure I am allowed to talk to you anymore. I blame Bettman for all that is wrong with hockey. The lockouts, the strikes, the CBA, the watering down of talent due to expansion (and he wants to expand more), messing with things that aren't broke, the stupid playoff decisions now. Plus he is fun to hate. Well I hope you don't stop talking to me freecharlie We needed the cap to help those teams in weaker markets. I don't blame GB for the strikes; I blame the owners for not accepting revenue sharing & the players for dragging their feet on the cap - both of which are much needed. The talent may be watered down - I can't entirely deny that - but it's still the best game in the world. Some sacrifices have had to be made to get the game to more markets. And we have to get it into more markets so that people will realize that hockey is the best sport ever. If it means free tix, so be it. People just have to watch the game to fall in love with it. It's impossible not to love it once you've been exposed to it.

woo-hoo!!
Total disclosure: we just started watching hockey a couple weeks ago, when the Blackhawks were playing Anaheim (we were at a friend's house and they're die-hard Blackhawks fans, so it was on)... hockey is actually a really fun sport to watch!
now... to figure out if the AZ Coyotes are worth watching next season... ?? (my guess is No by what I hear about them on the news, but at least it would be fun to go to a game.)
ETA: I do agree with AmeliaBloomer-- it is really hard to figure out where the puck is; we were doing a lot of rewinding and re-watching to figure out what the heck was happening.

now that you mention it, I do remember trying to watch a hockey game or two when they had that glowing-puck thing, and it hurt my head to watch it!

That was so funny. I've been to a Blackhawks game at the United Center and I can't remember seeing a single African-American fan there. Hopefully that will change. It was an exciting win and now we will see how the parade goes. Seems like there are already pissed off fans because Grant Park is to wet with all the rain, so they are having the rally at Soldier Field. You have to obtain a free ticket to get in and I'm sure that is going to be an issue. I'll sit at home and watch it peacefully on tv.

Your next step now is to go to a game! I can almost guarantee after you go to an actual game, you will fall in love with this sport! There is nothing like going to a game, the crowd, the energy, the noise--it's amazing and will have your hair standing up. I went to my first game when I was about 12-13. My dad spoiled me since he has a friend that has season tickets 10-12 rows behind the players. I've sat in those seats for years and years. I couldn't wait until I was old enough to drive and I'd go with my girlfriends, back when the Blackhawks played in the old Chicago Stadium. There'd be games I'd go to where there were hardly any fans in the seats. It was sad, but my how hockey has come around. When my kids were about 10-12, we took them to their first Blackhawks game, now at the United Center. We still had access to seats 10-12 rows behind the players. My kids didn't know what to expect, but were in awe. Their first game--Denis Savard was coaching Chicago and Wayne Gretzky was the Coyotes coach. What an amazing opportunity for them to see those 2 coaches and learn who they were. They've been fans ever since. It's an awesome game/sport, with extremely talented players. IMO hockey players are some of the best athletes; what they can accomplish while on ice is jaw dropping. Yeah Blackhawks!
