Yes, I've heard of it and it is a huge scam. Sorry to hijack this thread...are you from Sask, I see the rider pride banner. Originally, yes. Go Riders!

These callers are the most evil people, because they steal life savings from elderly people and others. So awful.

hahahahahaha!! having to pay the DEA to not investigate? there are people out there who would actually pay these so-called 'fines' ??
(except for the unnerving part of him knowing your address... except if you're 'in the phone book' then your address would be included.)

I always wonder who gets sucked into these scams because surely some in is or the scammers would go away. I had never heard of the DEA one. I think their main victims are the elderly. Our local news carries daily warnings of all kinds of scams because so many people (mostly elderly) have been taken in by them.

See... The DEA is finally getting their arrest process right! You have to call and inform the bad guy/girl that they're going to be arrested, FIRST! That way, he/she will be sure to be home when they get there. It's about time!!

oh, no- it's not just elderly people. Someone I work with had previous issues with the IRS (issues with tax returns / ex-husband, etc.) and was on her way to Walgreens to get money out of the ATM to pay an IRS fine before she finally thought twice about it...
She initially just panicked when she got a phone call from someone who said they were with the IRS, and they knew 'enough' about her history to make the story sound (a bit) legitimate.

I've never heard of this one, but have had the fake IRS call us several times. Not just on the house phone either, cell phone too.

Just think a free trip to a semi private room where the outside world can't get to you. Add in three meals a day, comfy clothing and somebody to watch you shower so you don't fall. Then cable tv or a nice workout! Dea take me away I remember one time, as the single mother of two toddlers, watching some kind of prison show thinking 'you know, that wouldn't be so bad...and I bet I wouldn't have one single person screaming mooooommmmmmy ever time I sat down.' My only issue with the whole scenario was that they probably wouldn't let me play with scissors and glue.

Slightly related, the last time I went to the doctor and was in the waiting room I went to hop on the wifi and one of the options was "DEA Surveillance." It made me laugh thinking they weren't being very stealth!

I'm so happy not to have a land line anymore. The scams are scary. I often think of the elderly or gullible citizens who become victims. You can still get them on cell phones. I have gotten two calls on my work cell (that is not associated with my name) that stated there was a warrant for my arrest. My 12 year old got a call last night saying that an insurance company from Dubai was calling to make sure we got our inheritance money from a relative who had passed away.

Don't forget about the one where they call and say that I am your grandson and in jail and needs money but to not call their wife/mother as they don't know that I am in Vegas. Seriously they pretended to be my husband and called his aunt grandma and she still fell for it. Like she didn't realize it wasn't his voice and that there is no way he would be in Vegas without me knowing about it LOL. I feel bad for her but really my DH is so not the kind to try and pull something. They stay on the phone with you while you wire the money or get a giftcard that can't be revoked.

Oh, my, I'd probably laugh at them. Or say "Sure, I'll get him all trussed up for you, come and get him. Do you need to come in or can I just roll him out on the porch for you"?
