...according to an answering machine message today! An "agent" called, left his name, badge # and phone #. Apparently, dh is part of an investigation from purchasing illegal drugs through online pharmacies. (It was unnerving that he knew our address.) Agent said that they are preparing a search warrant and dh was going to be placed under arrest & we needed to call him immediately!
The closest thing to an online pharmacy dh has used is nuts.com where he gets algae for his smoothies! Any Law & Order episode would teach you searches need to be a surprise. Duh!
I tried to look up said badge # and DEA website has a scam alert for this. Crooks are getting people to wire $ or give credit card info to avoid arrest or a fine. There was a online form to fill out to report, which I did.
Have you you ever heard of anything so crazy?!?

I'm so happy not to have a land line anymore. The scams are scary. I often think of the elderly or gullible citizens who become victims.

My inner snark comes out when I actually talk to someone I think is scamming me. Sometimes I have even replied to the emails I get. Pent up sarcasm with no place to go hurts more than gas.

I like to have conversations with them. Then when they figure out they're wasting their time they get pissed and hang up.

I haven't gotten the DEA call, but every so often I get one that's a recording that says this is the police, we are going to arrest you, this is no joke, call this number right away or we'll come to arrest you tonight!! all in a heavy Filipino accent. Sometimes I listen to the whole thing because it's kind of amusing. Thus far they haven't come through on their promise to arrest me TONIGHT!!

I laugh when they tell me they are waiting at the end of my block. My town has one cop on duty at a time most of the time. I'm trying to figure out how many neighboring town police are hanging out on my block.

We never get calls like that, feeling forgotten!
We have recently installed a system on our phone (UK) that blocks 100% of nuisance calls, so far so good.

The IRS was going to come here. Right after they come and get me! There was a voice mail just yesterday saying the IRS is getting ready to file suit against me. You both will have to wait in line. They called me a month or so, twice!

I agree, it's a huge scam going on here in VA, at least. It's all over the news. You can't get rid of your DH so easily!

We got a message on our answering machine this week from a police officer who told us the Australian Tax Office were investigating us and we needed to ring them RIGHT AWAY! It sounded like an Asian person trying to impersonate an American accent and they even used an American term for police officers- can't remember what it was but it was NOT how we address police here!

See... The DEA is finally getting their arrest process right! You have to call and inform the bad guy/girl that they're going to be arrested, FIRST! That way, he/she will be sure to be home when they get there.
It's about time!!

Well, it is nice of them to call and give you a head's up so he can plan his escape out the back door!
I have several multi-million checks coming this way. As soon as those money orders I sent to Nigeria clear.

I think the IRS called most of my neighborhood and they are coming to arrest all of us. I am impressed that the government has improved their efficiency and are now rounding-up groups to arrest by location. There must be a very nice cost savings for this approach. Hopefully they will send us all to the same prison so we can truly have a neighborhood "block" party.

I'm so happy not to have a land line anymore. The scams are scary. I've gotten a few on my cell phone - the IRS has called, I have problems with my Windows (strange, since we only have Macs in this house, but I had 20 minutes worth of fun on that one!!), so no land line won't always keep you safe. And I'm on the "Do Not Call" list, for all the good that does.

Unfortunately, these calls aren't just to landlines. I only have a cell phone and I get spam calls.
I've been left the message that I was going to be arrested at my "residence or place of employment" and if I didn't call the number given they will see me in court.

Just think a free trip to a semi private room where the outside world can't get to you. Add in three meals a day, comfy clothing and somebody to watch you shower so you don't fall. Then cable tv or a nice workout!
Dea take me away

Does it block automated calls too? lesley it's a BT service BT 8500. You have to have caller display and I love that your contacts auto save to your second phone. Lots of features. I don't think we have had a PPI call since we installed it. Peace!
