DH and I want to buy a house - we are first time buyers and come into this knowing little-to-nothing about the process. In March we met with a real estate agent (recommended by a co-worker) who then recommended two different lenders. I randomly picked one and called them (Lonny the Lender is what I refer to him at home). Lonny the Lender was really awesome the first three months of working with us - very knowledgable and helpful. DH and I had to do some work to bring up our credit scores - DH had his paid student loans not showing as paid on 2/3 of the reporting agencies and I had virtually no credit at all, so I needed to establish some. At the beginning of May, Lonny the Lender said to contact him in a month, after my (new) cc had another billing/reporting cycle.
I called Lonny the Lender at the beginning of June as scheduled. It took him 3 business days to finally call me back. When I did speak with him, he said he would re-run our credit scores and see where things stood. Another 4 business days go by and I hear nothing, so I called and left him a voicemail. He called me back the next day, apologizing that a co-worker is on vacation so he's covering their desk and his. He promises to run the report in the next day or two. Two business days later, he calls with the good news - our scores are where they need to be and we're ready to submit the items needed to get our pre-approval so we can actually start house shopping. He tells me he will email me a copy of the new credit report along with the list of items he needs from us to get the pre-approval ball rolling. Two more business days go by and I've heard/seen nothing from Lonny the Lender so I call and leave a voicemail. He didn't return my call and I've heard nothing since then. We're now three weeks past my last phone conversation with him.
I know we need a months worth of recent pay stubs, which is why I've let it go on this long without trying to contact him again. I took a couple days off in the middle of June and since I work part-time I don't get vacation pay, so I wanted to submit pay stubs that reflect me working (and being paid) for my regular number of work hours. Next week I will have all the pay stubs we need and will be ready to submit them along with whatever else is needed for pre-approval.
I feel we are at a point with Lonny the Lender that if we are going to jump ship and start with a new lender, now is the time. I would feel guilty if we went elsewhere because he was really helpful in the beginning, but I also don't want to stick around and possibly continue receiving what I feel is poor customer service. Are my expectations too high and we should continue with him? Should we find a new lender? Since this is our first time doing any of this, I'm not really sure what we should do in this situation. Thank you!
ETA: We have not signed any contracts/paperwork other than a signature allowing them to collect our credit information.
