I updated shortly after it came out but gave it enough time for them to work the bugs out. I haven"t had a problem yet. Apparently they have to change the way they store our information so hackers are less likely to find our information. It said if you use the same password at several places the hackers can find the info and go to other sites.

I think one issue is that there are still a lot of people having problems with it, and some of the problems have actually affected their computer. And when they have tried to get service from silhouette, many have said they haven't gotten any help from them. I have a friend that uses SSDE a lot and promotes it on her blog, and she had trouble with it, so she's been using the older version. She's pretty computer savvy so I don't think it's a user issue.
I think I'm going to start saving up for the klik n kut...

so the only thing not updating will do is not allow me to buy files? As I understand it, you can buy files and "buy" the weekly free files but you won't be able to download them into your software. Your current software will still cut all your existing files and you can still create your own files and cut. I haven't had a subscription in a couple years and I'm only cutting things that I have already downloaded/created so I'm going to wait for a while until all the kinks are worked out.

I'm wondering if I put the newest version on one computer (that I don't use with the machine) and download files from there, and then transfer them to my other computer, if that would be a good workaround. I might have to try it.

I finally updated to version 3 a week or so ago because iowgirl said they had worked the bugs out. That was before the "forced update" version was released. There was apparently some conflict with Microsoft when they first released it, but they reportedly fixed that issue really quick. I went ahead and updated last night to the newest version last night. I will let you know if I have any issues.
I always save each version to my computer. If I need to, I can always uninstall the software and reinstall an earlier version. I did back up my library, but you need version 3 for that (if you want to do it quick and easy). I never could make a backup work for the earlier versions despite following directions posted online.
I haven't tried the newest update yet, but I had no trouble with version 3 when I downloaded it a week or so ago. I used it to trace a template I had bought and wanted as a cutting file.
The forced update is related to security concerns. It is supposed to protect the customer's financial information.

I don't even know what version I have. The last time I used my cameo...maybe like earlier this year I think it made me update then. I never buy files so does that mean I don't need to update?

If you never buy files, you don't need to update. I don't know if it affects the ability to download the weekly freebie, but most of them these days aren't anything I want. I have a subscription, though, so I needed to update to continue to have access to the store.
Since I had already decided to update, anyway to version 3, I'm not having any heartburn about it. Most people seem to like the changes in version 3, especially the ability to work in layers, which I have not yet tried.

I updated my software last night, downloaded a few designs this morning, and adapted then cut a project from my library. No glitches with anything I have tried so far.

I know a lot of people are having issues with the new upgrade. I followed the Mac tutorial and I had no issues. I was able to open the upgraded software, see all my file and open files. I haven't cut anything yet but I don't anticipate any problems. Just wanted to share for those worried to upgrade. Mac install m.youtube.com/watch?v=BpQPJViZM9wWindows install m.youtube.com/watch?v=KqOfyFvZvNw

Thanks for the Mac tutorial link.
I was just going to ask if there were issues with the Mac or if it seemed to be more of a PC problem.
I have a MacBook Pro and my first cutting machine this year was a Cricut Explore. I thought the issues I was experiencing was Internet related, but later discovered that it was more of a Mac incompatibility issue. Multiple people told me the Explore and Macs don't play nice together. Ha
So I bought a Silhoutte. I was worried that I'll start having problems with this machine too. I do think I'll wait a bit before updating to make sure all the kinks are worked out.

I have a PC. I have had no problems since updating, and I have been using my Cameo after the update.

I updated to the newest version on both my laptops with no issues. I've also cut since the update and again no problems.
My Windows 8 laptop downloaded and installed without a hitch. My Windows 7 took me two tries. It got hung up on the first try so I cancelled it, restarted my laptop and tried again and it was fine.
