I was looking online for a Dooney & Bourke purse I wanted and saw the purse was at Macy's but also QVC. I've never purchased from QVC before but it seems like the payment plan may be what draws people there?? The pricing was the same except Macy's actually had several colors that were on sale while the QVC's ones were all at full retail price.
My question is do manufactures send the exact same quality items to QVC vs big name department stores like Macy's, Nordstrom, etc.?
Also, if you saw an ebay listing for a NEW Dooney & Bourke purse, would you believe that it was in fact a real D&B and new??

I would trust QVC over ebay.
I cannot speak to D and B, but the Vera Bradley bags are exactly the same quality.

Thanks gsquaredmom. I ended up purchasing one from Macy's yesterday as they had 3 spring color ones (lt pink, lavender and a bright aqua) that were almost 50% off and I really liked the pink one that on sale so my DH swung by our Macy's at his lunch hour and got it for me. He loves it as much as I do which is a great bonus.
I so much love the size, styling, quality, pebbled leather, etc. of this particular purse that I shopped online for the dark grey (elephant color) one last night and found an ebay listing for NEW at half price with no shipping. This color is hard to find and at half price a complete bargain so I went ahead and purchased it. The listing said it offered returns and I'm counting on the ebay refund protection if I need it so hopefully it will work out okay. Since I have an actual new one in my possession I should be able to compare all the details of the two to see if it is NEW and genuine.

You have to be really careful with eBay. I don't know if the quality is the "same" but at least with Macy's and QVC you have guarantees. My mom likes to buy her D&B purses from Macy's as well, that is when she isn't buying a D&B Disney purse from Disney.

One of my co-workers is a collector of D & B purses. She buys them interchangeably at Macy's and QVC.(Where ever she can get a deal). Every time she gets a new purse, she shows it off to me because she knows that I like them. You can't tell a difference as far as I can tell.

I don't believe so. I have no problems buying from QVC and often do knowing they stand behind the products they sell.

Very nice! Macy's occasionally has coupons that are good on D&B, so that's when I hit the clearance rack. I love that your DH picked it up. I smiled when you said he liked it - I don't think my DH could answer if I asked him what color my purse is

I'll be very surprised if the eBay purse is real, but it might be a good enough knock off that you won't mind. Unless it is used or stolen, you can't get a genuine bag at half-price.

Your purse is very pretty! I love the colour. I am considering getting a shopper for summer, too, but there is part of me that thinks I might have enough of them. (I know...too many purses? Impossible!) I really love the colour of this. The price at Macy's is great, too! I have enough pink purses. I have enough... Really I have enough (I will keep saying that to myself to make it true.)

Thanks Elannah. Until just a few weeks ago, I was the type of gal that only bought a new purse every 7 to 10 years and never spent more than $40. However, I saw a really pretty purse a few weeks ago at the leather online company I purchased my kindle cover from 4 years ago and couldn't resist it. It was expensive but gorgeous. I received it and instantly realized it was going to be painfully too small for everyday use. The purse was a limited edition version of a paisley pattern in the leather and gorgeous but non-refundable.
I started looking again for another purse and noticed this Dooney & Bourke one online Wednesday or Thursday this week. I was very skittish about buying sight un-seen again so I held off. Fate intervened when I was at the grocery store Friday morning standing right next to a lady that had this exact model of purse in a slate blue color (loved the color but it doesn't look to be sold anymore). I talked to her for about 5 minutes asking her all my questions about the purse. She was very happy with it and after seeing it in person, I knew it would be a great purse. So, long story, now I have a beautiful custom red paisley print leather purse, a pink leather purse and a dark grey leather purse on the way. I guess I won't have to buy a purse for anther 30 years but now I'm seeing how nice it is to have different colors so I may be out of control before long.

I have to reassure people that even if they don't have "nice clothes" or "hate clothes shopping" they still look pretty. That doesn't go away! I have younger moms and old, old ladies who come in and don't feel beautiful anymore. I remind them-gently-that they still are beautiful. Look in the mirror! Love who you see!)

I have that very purse in brown and love it! It doesn't hold a ton, but I always feel great when I carry it. I hope you do too!

guineapea--I do love it!! I went grocery shopping yesterday and, like you say, I felt great carrying it. It is so classically styled yet the color is so popping (it is a deep pink) it just makes me smile every time I walk past it in the house.

And don't you love that key hook? I never have to search the bottom of my purse for my keys anymore. It saves me a lot of frustration.

Great purse! As others have said, don't trust eBay. I've seen some pretty good fakes in the streets of NY. And those could be what us sold second hand as the real thing.

I never was interested in purses until my doctors told me I had to carry my epipen with me wherever I went--and it's saved my life a few times.
So I started carrying a handbag. For Christmas one year when I was in school, my parent gave me this big brown leather tote bag from Eddie Bauer that I had fallen in love with. I used that as my bookbag for several years, and I still have it. It's over 20 years old now and still looks fabulous.
So I started looking for leather purses. Dh liked the looks of the Coach and Dooney and Bourke, and I found a few used ones. Then Dh went on a business trip and surprised me by bringing me back a Coach shopper bag and the little matching wristlet.
When we lived in Chicago, there was an awesome consignment store called Clothes Mentor. The people there were trained to tell the difference between fake and real designer purses, and the store was full of them.
I bought a gorgeous tan leather Michael Kor hobo bag with a braided strap and an outside pocket with a braided leather drawstring on it. The leather is super soft, and I always get compliments on the bag.
I also bought a baseball glove tan leather Coach wristlet for $20. I use that as my wallet. I also have a wristlet that I put my cosmetics and lip glosses in as well as a little leather zip up case for my 2 pairs of sunglasses. It's so easy to switch purses since everything little is corralled into these bags.
I don't need a whole room full of purses, but I do like having different styles and colours for different reasons/seasons. When I like something, I like it and don't change my mind, so when I fall in love with a handbag, it's something I want to carry for a long time. Some of my bags I've been carrying for 10 years.

I was looking at that same purse in navy just yesterday. I just wish the lining was prettier. It was just a red fabric. I bought Fossil brand purses and wallets for many years, but their quality has gone downhill IMO.

I got a D&B from QVC two years ago. I've been using it exclusively since then, and other than a few small scuff marks in the leather pieces near the bottom, it looks brand new. I have never had a purse (and I own two Coaches) that has held up so wonderfully to daily use. If I didn't have my eye on a Michael Kors, I'd get another D&B - on QVC, because the payments make it AWESOME. LOL
ETA - I would never trust eBay.

I bought Fossil brand purses and wallets for many years, but their quality has gone downhill IMO. Gravity, I too have my eye on the navy one. I have the same thoughts about the lining. It appears the lining is bright red in all of the Lexington shoppers. I was thinking it would be nice to have a lining that at least coordinates (or contrasts nicely) with the color of the leather. My purse is bright pink so the red isn't terrible but I think an aqua lining would have been much prettier. I don't think a red lining with many of the other colors (lavender, aqua, etc.) is a great idea.
