Ok, if I get rid of my cricut (*sniff*sniff*) which one should I go with? I've been tempted by the Portrait to save space. Will I regret not going with the Cameo?

What do you cut?
I have the Cameo and love the size of it. I like being able to load my mat with different pieces (paper or vinyl) big enough to cut a whole project in one load of the mat.
I like being able to cut 3D projects like boxes and lanterns. You need the full 12" for most of those. Also for envelopes if you like making cards.
Portrait is 8" wide, Cameo is 12" wide. Both cut up to 10 feet long (roll vinyl). I don't think you can get a mat longer than 12" on the Portrait though.
You will still need the same amount of space front to back to allow the mat to move right. Will the few inches saved on the sides be super important?

I could be wrong, but I am also under the impression that the Cameo has a little more cutting pressure than the Portrait, so it will cut a little heavier materials.m I am not an expert, though. Tha's just something I read on the old Peas message board.
I love my Cameo! I also have the old blue Wishblade, which cuts the same width as the Portrait. It was my first machine, and I loved it and used it a ton, but I frequently wished it could cut wider.
I really recommend that you get the Cameo, but as Iowa Girl said, it really depends on the kinds of things you want to cut.

I had a baby bug and went with the Cameo because I wanted the full 12x12, no regrets at all. Some of the things I cut require that you have the 12x12 (as mentioned above...the 3d items.) Also, I like being able to cut 12x12 boarders or embellishments.

I want the portrait as I am one of the very few that want a smaller one. I do not cut boxes, bags banners. I am a scrapper only and I am fine that it does not do th e full 12x 12 . I do not have the real estate to designate the area for a cameo. Now if it would only go back on sale like it did a few months ago

I got the Cameo. Love knowing I can cut bigger stuff if I need it. I would suggest going on line and downloading the software to look at what is available in the store to cut.
There are tons of boxes, bags and 3D stuff. Most of it will work best with the 12" size of the Cameo.
Some of the 3D stuff is really fun.
I think it is better to have the 12" and not need that size as much, than to buy the portrait with the smaller size then wish I had the bigger one.
But check out the store to give you an idea of what you can do. If nothing in the 3D stuff interests you at all, then you may just need the portrait after all.

I love my cameo and have used the width for boxes and bags and background shapes/patterns (like a lattice for the background of a layout). I think it's worth the extra space...it's actually quite a small machine, just wide! The Alex cart from Ikea is perfect for it

I'd love a cameo too but just don't think I've got the space for it in my small craft room So if I replace my cricut, I think it'll have to be the portrait.

I would definitely do the Cameo if you can afford it! I love doing fun vinyl projects and making boxes that require a bigger cutting area.

I went and looked at them to see the size difference. Only 4". That could be a major thing - or not - but the Portrait really doesn't save a ton of space. Side by side comparison: Side by Side

Go big or go home. That's my motto. I love using the 12x24" mat. I make long borders for poster board, cut poster board, cut lots of pennants out at once... If I'm cutting big letters, I can cut more than one on a page. Then there's the 3d and scrapping usage. For 4" of space, I would get rid of something before I skimped on the Cameo.

You really have to take a look how you scrap. I bought a Portrait over a year ago and have no regrets. I just didn't need the Cameo. You will love which ever one you choose.
