I have officially reached the stage where I can no longer store all my alpha sets in their designated drawer which means I really need to focus on getting some of them used up.
When do you call an alpha sheet finished? Do you try to use every last letter or are you ok with tossing all those x, v, j and z's out?
How do you use up the numbers and symbols that inevitably are in the set?

I have tried to get rid of them when I can't easily make a word. I never use all the numbers and symbols anyway. But lately there are some fonts, especially Thickers, that I don't even like any more and i think I miht just bin them. They dont stick very well anyway.

I give my almost-used-up alphabet sheets to friends and coworkers who have young kids. Young kids love stickers and don't care if they're mostly used up.

My hoarder tendencies want to save them, as I've seen such cute layouts using all of those "never" used leftover letters. But my practical, logical self will eventually take over (not nearly as soon as it should) and I'll dump them when I can't make any words.

Or I'll let my kid play with them first and then throw them away.

Once the vowels, s, t, n are used up and I can't figure out a way to make another letter out of the leftovers, like a U for an N, I toss them.
I never used to do that. I'd save them almost forever. Pretty soon I was so frustrated that I had a huge basket full of Thickers and couldn't find a usable set. I went through them all and got rid of a bunch. It felt good, actually.
I never use all the numbers/symbols either, so I focus on the alpha to determine when it's done.

If it is an alpha that is not a favorite I'm good with letting go once most of the "popular" letters are used up. If is a font or color I really like, I let is stay for much longer. I sometimes mix alphas.
As far as the numbers...again, If i like the font or color, I will cut apart the numbers from the alpha to be discarded, and just keep them until I get tired of having them.

All of the never used letters, I will save to make those crazy layouts with letter vomit, haha.
I guess it's used up when I don't reach for that sheet anymore cuz I can't make any more words.

When the vowels are gone.

When I can no longer make letters I need from the leftovers. A little scissor work can turn an x into a k and a number of letters into l's. Then it just gets trashed.

It's interesting to see everyone's rationale. I'm guilty of hoarder tendencies and I have sets where I can still make a word or two but I need to get past the idea that I *might* use that word as a title one day and either use them or toss them.
I'm thinking about tossing all my old chipboard / metal letters that still have a few vowels and other useful letters left. I almost never use them but I need to get past the idea that I might need them. Am I crazy?

Here you can see some ideas to use up leftover alphabets that I've added to my Pinterest boards. Enjoy!

I have a large basket that holds probably 100+ Thickers packages. The new ones are towards the front. When the new ones don't fit, the ones from the back get tossed out or donated.

I was doing what I called a vicious purge one day. I decided they took up too much space and tossed the lot of them. I have never been sorry. I think having stuff I don't use held back my creativity. Now I purge little stuff all the time. If I see it in my stash and don't love it, it goes in the donate box immediately.

I saw a great idea on another board. Look at the packet and see if there are any words you can make with what's left. Spell those words out on a piece of waxed paper and toss the rest of the letters. The one I saw had the word "pumpkin" (it was a fall colored alpha), hi, her kid's name, the year 2015, etc. it was such a good idea. I want to try it! Otherwise, I do exactly as Mikklynn does.

I'm stubborn and keep alphas to the bitter end...I use the orphan letters with other alphas for a "ransom note"-look title or journaling. I like the ideas from mariangeles76 too!
