I finished it last night and, although I don't usually read historical fiction, I really liked it. It takes place in France during WWII and is about 2 sisters and their paths through the war.

I just finished this book this morning. Like you, I normally don't read historical fiction, but I love Kristin Hannah, so I wanted to give it a shot. It took me longer than usual to read it and I almost bailed about halfway through. I kept reading because I was curious about the ending. I finished it and thought it was good but not one of my favourites.

I was about to write "Yes!" but after reading your post, I realized I'm thinking of "The Goldfinch." Completely different bird! The book you are actually talking about sounds interesting, though! I will check it out.

Yes! I loved, loved it. I'm going to pick it for my book clubs book next month. I hope they like it. I've read 2 other books by her, The Things We Do For Love and Night Road and loved them both.

I enjoyed this one, also. I've read a lot of HF, and this one was one of the best. The writing is fluid, and the characters are well defined and real.

I actually felt like I was losing weight while reading it. And felt hungry while reading it. Since this was the first book I've read about France during the war it was a very interesting perspective.

For those of you who have read it: I must have read the first chapter incorrectly because for some reason I thought it was Isabelle who survived. Of course, in retrospect it is more obvious that it would be Vianne.

Yes! I just started it yesterday and really enjoying it so far. I normally don't buy hardbacks but the library had a huge waiting list and I didn't want the kindle cause I know my mom and sisters will like it too

cadoodlebug In regards to your spoiler, I could be wrong but I believe it was meant to be ambiguous and keep you guessing.

I read it and liked it as well. That was my first Kristin Hannah book and I wasn't sure what to expect but it was good.

The Nightingale is my fave book so far this year. Code Name Verity - be still, my heart! Another book I adored - one of my top 10 last year. It's written by Elizabeth Wein. Lisa

I haven't, but I have read a number of books from different perspectives during WWII and have found them fascinating.
I need to remember this one.
Now I wonder if anyone knows a story about the Phillipines in WWII? My father fought the Japanese on those islands and refused to talk about it.

Rescue at Los Banos and We Band of Angels are two that come to mind for me. The Japanese were horrifyingly abusive and the atrocities they committed are beyond belief.

I've read several of hers and she is a great author. Oh, and Firefly Lane is also so good!

I've started the audio version, actually several months ago. I can't seem to get into it. And I love KH normally. I will try again.
Winter Garden is my absolute favorite by KH. And is definitely in my top 10 ever.

And is definitely in my top 10 ever. When I hurt my back several years ago and couldn't sit upright for several days, DH got me some audio books from the library. Within an hour I couldn't concentrate and hadn't retained anything. Maybe it's an acquired skill. I am a very visual person and have to read the words to visualize the story. Of course, if you listen to audio books often, that's probably not the problem.

I just finished it. I enjoyed it too.
It was very similar to a storyline in one of the Jack Reacher books.
