My step-son recommended it to me but I haven't read it yet. I really like Kristin Hannah.

Yes! It's my favorite book that I have read this year.

It is one of my favorite books this year. I also loved Secrets of a Charmed Life, which was recommended to me because I read The Nightingale.

I am a few chapters in on the audio book and so far I like it. This is the 2nd book I have read recently set in France during World War II. I finished All the Light We Cannot See a few weeks ago and loved that one.

I've started the audio version, actually several months ago. I can't seem to get into it. And I love KH normally. I will try again. Winter Garden is my absolute favorite by KH. And is definitely in my top 10 ever. When I hurt my back several years ago and couldn't sit upright for several days, DH got me some audio books from the library. Within an hour I couldn't concentrate and hadn't retained anything. Maybe it's an acquired skill. I am a very visual person and have to read the words to visualize the story. Of course, if you listen to audio books often, that's probably not the problem. Yes I'm actually a huge fan of audio books. Probably been listen to them since the late 80's. I do go in spurts though. There are just times I can't concentrate well enough.

I finished The Nightingale last night and bawled and bawled and bawled! Oh my goodness, so powerful! I've read a lot of WWII from the English and American perspectives but never from the French, so it was fascinating.
I agree with the spoiler - I assumed it was one way until about 100 pages from the end, when I thought "Hang on...."
I thoroughly recommend this book, but it is HARD to read in a lot of places. I don't usually cry over books!
I haven't read any other of KH's books, but I'll certainly be seeking out more.

It DOES give a totally different viewpoint of the war from the French citizens.

I don't generally love historical fiction, but I do love Kristin Hannah, so I read it. Thought it was fabulous. Not too surprising as I think I have read and liked just about everything she has ever written.

As for KH books that make you bawl, I did the ugly cry through about 90% of Night Road. Great book, but as the mother of children the same age as those in the book, it hit me really hard.

I completely agree! KH is one of my favorite authors and I gave 5 stars to Night Road. I was a blubbering mess through parts of it! Like a previous poster said, I have tried the audio version of Nightingale soooo many times recently and I can't get into it. I love KH and I love books set in this time period, so I am frustrated. I have the e-book version too, so I think I am just gonna have to ditch the audio here and read it. I cannot concentrate or really get into this story otherwise.

I enjoyed this one, also. I've read a lot of HF, and this one was one of the best. The writing is fluid, and the characters are well defined and real. This! I actually felt like I was losing weight while reading it. And felt hungry while reading it. Since this was the first book I've read about France during the war it was a very interesting perspective. Sarah's Key is another great book about this time period during France.
