Anyone remember when Michaels had chipboard stacks? I tried selling both for like $5.00 on a facebook group. No buyers. I'm pretty sure scrapbooking is almost dead! I couldn't give away stamps. No buyers on grand nestabilites dies either. Any ideas on creative ways to use this stuff up? Or should I just donate to the thrift store? I've never sold anything online and don't know if I want to bother with setting up a paypal account or selling on e-bay. I don't have that much stuff to sell. It's mostly rectangles and circles with words and some geometric shapes.

It's mostly rectangles and circles with words and some geometric shapes. I like painting basic shapes with gesso, and then stamping over top to make my own embellishments. I did that on this page: Or, I cover them with patterned paper (I use Mod Podge or matte gel to adhere), and then lightly sand the edges when the paper is adhered and dry (just to finish the edge a bit). Then I use to layer, or to put a title on. You can do this with words, too; I used chipboard letters covered in patterned paper for this title:

I have tons of chipboard too! Bought mine at the $1 bins at the scrapbook convention - anyways have drawer full of packages.
I started using mine for tags to add a personal touch to a gift bag, present and even gift card holders. I have been able to use up this way, as I seldom find myself using on a card or layout.

I have that stack, lol. I don't use it often, but like ashley said, I use mine to hold embellishments if they're a simple shape or be the embellishment if it's a fun shape all on it's own (like the flowers). I don't have Gesso, but I cover mine w/patterned paper or even cardstock if the colors don't match what I'm working with. I like the idea of using them as gift tags, too. If you have a Crop-a-dile, punching holes is a snap. Don't get me wrong, there are so many pieces that I don't think I will ever use them all, but I try to work them in here & there. Hang in there!

ashley great ideas to remind us to use this technique. I did it a few years when it seems I made more embellsihments ..but really it's a great way to customize pages and I need to start doing this again!

I had just been thinking about the big drawer full of plain shaped chipboard that I have. I need to pull it out and figure out a way to use it.

ashley - those are great layouts. I got rid of all my chipboard. I never used it. I tried painting, covering with patterned paper, and inking. It just never looked right to me. I never thought to stamp on it...great idea!

I got rid of all my plain chipboard shapes long ago. However, I did just buy 180 sheets of 12x12 heavyweight chipboard sheets.

I've never tried gesso. I kind of suck at techniques. I guess I'll look up a few youtube videos. I don't own a crocodile. I do have quite a few of those $1.00 stamps that could fit on the chipboard. Hmmm. More stuff to buy after I paired down a bunch a year ago! Thanks for your suggestions!

I do find it takes some work to get it useable for a page (painting, paper, etc) and I don't always want to spend time making embellishments!

On the TV show Scrapbook Soup, Julie FeiFan Balzer covered them with gesso and painted watercolors over them. It turned out gorgeous and I'll be trying that technique soon. With chipboard, I like to use Versamark ink and colored embossing powder on them to customize the color (and the ep adds nice texture). I like the idea of chalkboard paint on them, too.

I have been selling stuff on Craigslist for years.. everything from lots of different scrapbook items...stamps & stuff..craft stuff.. exercise stuff..tools & lawn equipment..household items..longaberger baskets..kitchen stuff... There has only been 1 item in all that time that would not sell. I did have to relist several times on some stuff. do not give up.

I have plenty of chipboard and I still love it. The naked stuff I ink or paint. I love doing that. I love getting a sponge soaking wet with paint and painting chipboard. I have covered with patterned paper as well.
I love Blue Fern chipboard a LOT. I mean a LOT A LOT. (@patter she is their design team coordinator or something like that. She shows how to use chipboard in lots of creative ways). Blue Fern is fun stuff. You have your usual cherish, love, honour, and dream pieces, but their SHAPES are so cool too! I haven't bought nearly as much as I would like to have.
OMG OMG OMG I knew I needed chalkboard paint! I knew it! I wanted some for quite a while and there it is! Painting on chipboard! Yay! What a totally cool idea! Thanks!

I got a few different sets of chipboard really cheap recently which was not my brightest idea considering the amount of chipboard that I have sitting unused but I have been making an effort to use them. Painting and then stamping on them is probably the favourite thing at the moment but I have made some nice looking layered embellishments from them as well which is better than paying for expensive pre made ones and I get something perfectly coordinated to my project.

Unfortunately Craigslist is not popular in my state and I live in a rural area. KSL classifieds are more popular, but the travel time is not worth the gas money. So, I sometimes use a local FB classifieds group.
