Why did I wait?!?! All this time they were just waiting for me on a shelf and here I sat, lacking texture. Last night I tried out my two embossing folders (a small dot pattern & larger dot pattern from Lifestyle/used to be QK). Suddenly all my boring cardstock scraps have new use! Punched butterfly? Very nice. Embossed punched butterfly? Stunning! Gorgeous! The continuity of having a 4x6" polkadot embossed piece of cardstock layered behind my photo, plus tiny polka dot embossed embellishments really pulls it all together. And now I feel like I need to buy more. MORE I tell ya!! I think my $3.99 on clearance 2 pack embossing folder purchase was just the very small beginning of a very expensive addiction.

Yes, you now have a new addiction! Welcome to the world of embossing folders.
TIP--whatever you decide to store them in get a larger container. I've ended up dividing mine into different totes. I have; general folders, holidays, and the narrower strips.

@lavendarlayoutlady - embossing folders are addicting. OK, everything is addicting. My new, to me, technique is to lightly stamp on the open embossing folder then carefully put my paper in and emboss in ink. I saw it on a YT video a few weeks ago.

When I make cards I go through my folders to see what I either haven't used at all.......or haven't used recently. I pull those, then make cards around those folders.

Ah yes that swiss dot (small polk dot) will get you everytime..LOL my first one as well. And from there I have a amassed quite a bit. They are fun to use but I haven't used mine in a long time. Perhaps I will try to get some use into them on my next project. Have to say I used to get the small 2x2 embossing plates for QK and emboss my letters for my titles. Such a fun look. Enjoy your new habit!

Lately I've also been putting ink on the folder and then embossing. It's a cool effect. I know Jennifer McGuire has YT videos on this technique.

Pretty soon, you will need one of those divided freezer Binz to keep them in!!!
My am bossing folders are all numbered and stored in order. You don't want to know how many I have! As I get them, I am emboss and numer a tag and put it on a ring. The rings are divided by topics. Things like holiday, floral, general backgrounds. I can quickly flip through these tags my am bossing folders are all numbered and stored in order. You don't want to know how many I have! As I get them, I am bossa tag and put it on a ring. The rings are divided by topics. Things like holiday, floral, general backgrounds and then get the folder I want.

I don't have a machine that embosses, only a Silhouette. I've seen someone use a rolling pin with an embossing folder, so I picked up one of the little 99 cent Darice folders at TM last week. It worked great, once I taped the folder shut with a piece of washi. I can see how they could be fun to collect.

I love them too. I've found a lot of cool ones at scrappy garage sales for cheap, and I can never resist! I saw a neat way to store them where the person made a cardstock folder and ran the front of it through the embossing folder that would be stored inside. You can see and feel the design the folder does when you flip through the collection.

I did the storage idea where I ran each folder through a tag (from M's), numbered each tag and corresponding folder, hung the tag on a binder ring and the folder is filed in a Craft Options tote. Then I have a little swatch sample of each one. Similar to this: clicky
