Dad was telling me the other day that he had something similar to a fitbit (not sure what though) - when he and Mum went away for a few days he had it with him and was SHOCKED at how far he had walked in a day when he'd just been into the local area....took him a while to work out that he had it in the car with him when they went further afield and every vibration as he drove counted as a step! (Not that I'm suggesting it's the case with you, jackib, the story just made me laugh when I heard it!)

Awesome! I haven't looked at that in a while. Your post reminded me to look. I have 3,892.62 miles. Wow, I need to watch that more often.

Good for you!
Now if I could only walk that far in a straight line, I could probably be somewhere warm for winter. Unfortunately, if I did walk that many miles I would just be going in circles. I probably walk a few hundred miles a year just walking into a room, only to have no clue why I did it. sigh.

Awesome!! I'm still deciding if I want to get one or not--do you use it for weight loss purposes or just tracking steps? I really need a weight loss motivator and it would be an expensive one if I got it...

I wish everyone would post how long it took them to get those amazing accomplishments!
I feel like a couch potato because I only have 250 miles and it took me a month to get there. Sigh.
In my defense I can only walk because of a bad knee.

I bought one and was all excited - then I watched it log "steps" as I typed at work I had downloaded the drive bit app (for when you're driving), but having to do it while sitting on my butt at work seems sorta loopy. I lost interest after that as I wondered how accurate was it. I wonder how many steps I would get if I was chopping onions?

I lost interest after that as I wondered how accurate was it. I wonder how many steps I would get if I was chopping onions? I have the Fitbit Zip. I attach it to the waistband of my shorts. It doesn't log any steps if I am sitting. Which one do you have? Is it the Flex that you wear on your wrist? I wonder if that is why it is logging steps. I have had mine for one month now. My first day was Monday, June 16th..............well, on Sunday, I put it on and walked a little to check the accuracy. I had 159 steps on Sunday, June 15th. I am just over 300 miles so I have my 250 mile badge. I don't use it much on weekends so that is almost all Monday through Friday miles.

Great accomplishment. Still pondering if I want one but getting a reminder when you reach a good milestone interests me.

ladytrisha- Did you contact customer service with your problem? From what I understand, they are very helpful. My Fitbit One is VERY accurate with my step count. Darn thing won't give me a single step I didn't earn.

Whee do I got to see total steps? Go to your Dashboard on the Fitbit site and it shows all your badges etc.

Awesome!! I'm still deciding if I want to get one or not--do you use it for weight loss purposes or just tracking steps? I really need a weight loss motivator and it would be an expensive one if I got it... I got it for both the weight loss and the steps. I used My Fitness Pal for the calorie logging (which I have not done in a long time ) and the Fitbit for steps. I put it on everyday and I am amazed how many steps I get some days just doing the housework. Other days it shows what a slug I am
A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, and is fat. A rabbit runs and hops all day but only lives 15 years. A tortoise doesn't run ... Does nothing in fact, and lives for 450 years,
And you tell me to exercise. I don't think so!
When we were on vacation I wished my FB was waterproof because I put in quite a few steps at the lake.

Awesome!! I'm still deciding if I want to get one or not--do you use it for weight loss purposes or just tracking steps? I really need a weight loss motivator and it would be an expensive one if I got it... I do have mine connected with My Fitness Pal, which is great for weight loss. If I used it. I am definitely motivated by seeing how many steps I take each day, how many flights of stairs I go up, etc. I have, on occasion, been THIS close to begin at 10,000 steps that I've literally walked around my house to hit that mark. I've also joked that I can see how bad my work day has been by seeing how FEW steps I take in a day. I like seeing how I compare - step-wise - to the friends I'm connected with at FitBit. (Which reminds me... anyone want to add each other as friends for some additional motivation???). I do NOT rely on it for distance accuracy, though. I've found that my stride varies too much depending on what kind of walking I'm doing (walking around the house is different - apparently quite so - than when I walk for exercise). I've tried adjusting it, and it's just not consistently accurate. So I rely on an app on my phone for that. It's also not great at accurately gauging your activity level for activities that don't involve moving your lower body. It'll count "steps" if you're riding a bike, depending on where you put it. (I'm talking about the One here, which can be attached to your shorts, shoes, etc.) But if you're doing, say, P90X, it doesn't know that you're killing yourself, exercise-wise, and won't track your calorie burn accurately. All in all, though, I *LOVE* my little FitBit and find that it does motivate me to move more.

I drive a jeep and live in Missouri, that drive to work is going to be bumpy. If I could have just turned it off somehow during those times.

Whee do I got to see total steps? Go to your Dashboard on the Fitbit site and it shows all your badges etc. Thank you, jackib! I found it! I've had mine on for about 3 years, I think and it says I have 4,200,628 steps lifetime! Whoa! aaah, I see, we're talking miles...in that case, I've got 1,811.65 miles!
