We have "team" meetings every quarter. They start at 8am and last till noon. Usually they involve some kind of "homework". Well, there was an issue with the last one being the day after Memorial Day weekend. I was just looking to fill out my vacation requests and see the next one is scheduled the day after Labor Day. WTH? Who in the right mind does that? Doesn't anyone ever consider that people are away, have cottages, etc. or just plain like an extra long weekend?
Vent over.

It was likely scheduled to prevent those vacation requests. Either that, or it was the only place left on the calendar to reschedule it. Is attendance at it mandatory for your position?

Is the "homework" last minute? If you know now there is a meeting the Monday after labor day can employees plan ahead? I mean it's 2 months away.

The day after Labor Day is always the first day of school here, so most people are back into their routines because of that.

Where I work, that day would look open because most folks were avoiding scheduling meetings that day. So...someone who was trying to get a meeting slot that was available for the greatest number of attendees might pick it just because no one else had.

So that no one calls in sick so they can rest up after having partied for long weekend.

It's a paid work day so why isn't it permissible to schedule a meeting. Many jobs work on holidays and weekends, so I find it hard to muster sympathy for those poor souls who ( gasp) might have a meeting the day after a holiday.

When I taught , I never scheduled a test after a weekend and especially not after a long weekend. I knew I would not be able to get my students best work. Maybe the OP is thinking of it in this way.

Bingo! The last thing people want to do is talk about the same stuff we talk about every meeting and nothing ever changes. All the motivational books we have to read and the catchy quotes mean nothing.
