Wow, I think it was pretty cool. Plus a chance to star gaze with a NASA astronaut and talk with an astrophysicist. Of course I'm just a big kid at heart. What I really want to know if they got to use the bathrooms inside the White House or they had porta potties ? Inquiring minds need to know.

one reason it happened is that Michelle Obama is the Honorary Chair of GS USA. In fact, there is a "capital hill troop"--composed of all the women senators and representatives who were gs...which is most of them. also, GSUSA and the National Park service just entered into a partnership --announced in May at the Golden Gate Bridging Ceremony --to encourage girls and their families to go outdoors. there are several new outdoor badges...the brownie one includes learning the square knot and overhand knot.
Lou Henry Hoover was a very active supporter of the GS.. (I'm not sure off hand if she was the first First lady involved)..in fact, as a trained geologist she promoted science in badges and activities. She left the GS the use of the Lou Henry Hoover House in Palo Alto, CA. so First Ladies are "automatically" involved with Girl Scouts.
just a little background....I thought it was cool..

I'm glad GS is moving toward more overall badges and domestic goddess, helping, and craft badges. I have thought for a long time that the Girls need to bring on more of an Eagle Scout mentality. I know at one time I wanted to go to the top of GS but we just didn't have the local adult support network.

Things like this remind me that under the tough, political exterior of the president, is a pretty decent human being. And I would say this about the vast majority of our presidents. We don't have to agree with them in order to respect them.
I think this is awesome!

We don't have to agree with them in order to respect them. I think this is awesome! I agree. I think it's a sad state of our media coverage and partisanship that we can't imagine them interacting with children. They all had/have kids - and while I may disagree strongly with many of the political positions of our past presidents and wannabes - I think the vast majority would enjoy a camp out with the Girl Scouts. I did wonder how they managed s'mores without a real campfire - that was my favorite part!

Sort of love that the girls were just "Hey Obama!" instead of all "Mr President"ing ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MSZirfLXsDTg15EDMD9C.jpg)

I am not a fan of his, BUT, what a wonderful memory for those young Girl Scouts. It is a memory they will cherish and share forever.
