Saw this beautiful poem on FB today.
For John Rasmussen and Jack Between Us So this is your turning place Loved one, Dog of my heart and More than my heart, Dog, who found, somehow, the spaces unfilled By every other love I’ve ever known. In these days where everything is praised For going fast and faster, Dog, I praise us for going slow. You and I were a pause. We were an interim together. We were a gentle exploration on a long, shared road. We enjoyed the journey. We really dug the trip. You perked to smile at my happiness. I stretched with my heart to see through your good dog eyes. Dog, we were, in our day: brave, silly, gracious, and stubborn. We were willful and curious. We were kid joy on skates. How we loved. How we laughed. (We know we did laugh, In smiles and snacks, Scratches, hip-nudges, and wags.) We had everything between us, and on a moment's parting, Along this road or that one, So you could chase a butterfly and I could turn over a stone, In love and trust we were undivided, even trails and fields apart. We made a wider road together. So now, this is your turning place. And as you move away from me, Loved dog, we are together. So much love and hope and memory, undiminished still. There is everything between us. Jack, on this day: no matter the space made by your turning, I go with you. My heart sees you just ahead. Loved dog, we make a wider road together. There is nothing between us at all. Susannah Charleson, ©2015

That is a lovely poem and made me cry. I miss my pups that I have lost - Enzo (my avatar) and Mona. They become such big parts of our lives... TFS.

I miss my Kinser so much, but we wouldn't have our Remy now if time didn't carry on. We've only lost 1 dog; 2 years ago (and I hate the term, lost.... I know where he is damn it and I wish it wasn't in that box on the mantel!) But we have also watched 4 cats pass through our lives. We are now onto another 4 cat / 1 dog household and I still cry thinking of the ones that have passed on and the thoughts of losing any of the current furkids any time soon.

Thank you. I had to say an unexpected goodbye to my sweet little dog in my avatar on Monday. Losing a pet is so hard.

Thanks for sharing. Tomorrow will be a year that my Pooka died. I never knew a heart could hurt so much.
