So my items were stolen from a "locked" room at a school. We use it over the summer to make things for our summer program. It was there on Sunday, gone Weds. Odd thing is that there was $5k of gas cards in the room, printers and computers. But my Cricut and Gupsy were taken? I have a police report out. Now my question is, what do I get to replace? Silhouette? I am devastated.

Did a fellow teacher borrow it to work on their room? Can you email everyone at school to find out?
I am sorry if they are really gone. Have no idea what to replace them with but if you were happy with them before maybe you can pick up used ones cheaply.

I'm so sorry I left some expensive items locked up in my room too. I'm looking at getting the cricut explore air. As far as I can tell, it's better than the silhouette in every way except it is limited to 24" long projects. But I'm not an expert

I'm so sorry! You would think you could trust fellow teachers. Does the school have security cameras? I'd like to know who would steal something that specific! Even if it is a teacher who has it in their room!
I have a Cameo and love it. But if you still have all of your cartridges, I think you could pick up a Cricut pretty cheaply. If you got rid of them be ause they are on the Gypsy, how good is the school internet? Sure you can store things on a SD card, but the value of a Cameo is all those images online, the moment you need them. And I often cut more than 24", but it's mostly for convenience, not a 24" shape.

My first thought was that maybe another teacher had borrowed it to do some work and forgot to leave a note because it seemed such an odd thing to take considering the other things in the room. Stealing the Cricut and Gypsy was a very mean act by a horrible person, not surprised you are devastated by it! I do hope you get it back still in good condition very soon or can quickly replace it. No recommendations as to what to get - I moved away from the Cricut family of cutters to go to something else.

add me to the list that thinks it wasn't an actual theft, but someone who thought it would be ok to borrow for a project and then return, and who forgot to leave a note. are you able to send a group email to those who have summer access to the building and alert them to the fact that it is yours, you need it and please return/let you know if they have it?
seriously, what kind of thief would take only those 2 items, and leave everything of higher value? it has to be a mistake by someone. hope you find out soon!

But I'm not an expert It also can not be used with out internet also the web based program seems to have issues with the site crashing. Rumor is that they are working on making the machine (or a future one) non-internet dependant but personally I wouldn't hold my breath. They have been much better about responding to feedback but there always seems to be something that I really don't like about their upgrades. I would still go with the silhouette. FWIW I still have my Gypsy and E and an waiting for it to die to upgrade.

so sorry about your stuff. My first thought was someone borrowed it thinking it was school property for school use? Is that possible? I hope so. Hate to think someone in house and fellow co-worker would do that to you.
Now off to google Cricut Explore Air. Have not yet heard of that. Hope I don't need it.

My Cricut was a gift from hubby too! Supposed the principal watched the tapes, but not holding my breath as he was irritated I asked him to look. Email was sent out asking for it to be returned to office or the room. No questions asked. I just want my stuff back. Police report was the absolute last resort. And more to get insurance involved for replacement.

I am sorry you stuff was stolen, that sucks and so does your principal's attitude. You would think he would want to catch the thief.

Sorry your stuff was stolen. I have a big cricut [the Expressions] and a silhouette. I'd you have to purchase a new one go with the silhouette. IMO it cuts so much better. I just made a bunch of 1.5" polka dot Minnie Mouse bows and none of them had wonky cuts. No way Cricut could handle that detail.

I am leaning towards to Silhouette. I had a ton of carts linked. School said their insurance would give replacement cost. Thank you for advice! I need to make 208 scrap pages by July 16, this is going to be interesting!

I would talk to the Principal. I had a teacher maliciously break my video camera and the school district paid for a new video camera.

Weird! I hope it is a big misunderstanding. I did have my classroom broken into during the summer. In that school the doors opened to the outside so it was easier to get into.

My district doesn't replace stolen items either. It is up to us, the staff to take our items home. Which is why a teacher is the best packer and mover on the planet. We have to do it yearly!
I'm sorry your items were stolen. It really would be sweet to find out someone borrowed them and didn't leave a not.
Your dh rocks! That's nice of him to get you a replacement tool.

I am sorry your items were stolen. Hopefully, it will turn up. Fellow teachers can be the worst at "borrowing" things. I don't trust anything of value to be left in my room.

Are you an NEA or AFT member? I know there's some sort of insurance I have that would cover the theft of my vehicle or if it was damaged on school property that I get as a benefit for being a member and it may cover the theft of other things. We are always advised to take expensive items like microwaves, printers, etc. home for the summer and I can imagine my admin saying that if we left it there after we were told it was best to take them home, then we were SOL. Have fun with your new toy, but I hope you also get the others back as well!
